Wow. Gibson really don't know what to do with the V, do they?

First the Tribal V, now the 'Star Ray V'. Yuk

Impressive!! A blind employee with to much time on his hands found some paint and a couple of left over guitars.. Well at least Gibson is up to something with the white headstock. Some guitars in custom  colors with matching headstocks would not be wrong to me.

Another theory about all the odd ones we have seen recently is that the designers always work with new concepts. A lot of project guitars are built and in these times of bad economics Gibson decides to let them all go. As an ebay lurker I've seen "monsters" like these built from the 60's and on beeing up for sale from time to time.

I'd like to see Gibson offer a limited-edition 70's Flying V.  Maybe a '75 reissue with a volute, correct '75 era headstock, and aged finish/aged parts.  I'd buy one in a second.  Fender does a nice reissue of their 70's Stratocaster with "relic" finish, big headstock, and aged pickguard/parts.  And they sell a lot of them!

I agree with all of you, these new V's are not my thing. I have no desire to buy Tribal V, Star Trek V, Holy V, Shred V, '84 Silverburst V and the like.

Keep on rockin'

Is that supposed to be stylish or classy or futuristic or cool or beatiful?
No it´s none of those.
If you look at almost any websites of custom guitar companies and luthiers, you will see interesting and great looking reincarnations of flying v either by finish or shape. Gibson somehow fails to do it.
That "80´s" layout of knobs is something that i don´t like one bit either.
If they have to screw up stuff and experiment, why not try something like this:

It´s a 58 shaped V with reverse explorer headstock and floyd rose.
By a Finnish comany Amfisound. At least i would like it. With or without floyd.

meh
have yet to like any V they have released with that control layout.

no pickguard reminds me too much of the cheap alder no pickup V's of the 80's for a start.
