That´s one really nice guitar, I love it. It seems like the Custom Shop is putting out more and more really great Vs these days.
Gibson should come up with a block inlay series. White, (rev)silverburst, black and special colors.
And
AFFORDABLE for the working man!!!

I love the 57 Classic Plus' in both neck and bridge, and I turn the neck p/u around, seems to clear up the tone a bit more. YMMD.

The necks on the Downing V's aren't exactly unfinished. They have the clear coat on them. I steel wooled most of it off on mine. It was so sticky. They also have the stinger back of headstock.

The time has come that I must sell one of my prize V, the 76 White Custom.
The Good:
The serial number and wood are the only thing on this guitar that is original. When I bought it about 10 years ago, it was refinished purple and had gold hardware.
The not so Good:
It has been refinished at least twice, once by me. (Refinish was done by Jake Tuel of Burning River Guitars in Akron OH. Anyone who knows of Jake's work knows it is TOP NOTCH work) During this refinish it was discovered there was an old headstock fracture & repair, very well done and solid, say's Jake. I was not aware of this when I bought it.
The pickguard is a WD. The neck pickup is a Gibson stamped PAt. Number, the Bridge p/u is a Dimarzio PAF. The electronics is a RS Premium Kit. Tuners are Grovers. TRC is a Custom made cover found on ebay. The knobs are vintage 60's witchhat knobs. The bridge is a German made thing with roller saddles. Tailpiece is I believe Gibson.
The fretboard. This a board I bought off ebay. Was told it was off a LP Custom. It has the original flat frets that are in great shape with lots of life left. Jake put this board on as well.
The finish is called Polaris White. Jake told me this is the whitest white you can get.
As I look over the guitar now, I see there are 2 paint cracks. JUST IN THE PAINT. one is just below the small volute. The other is on the edge of the fretboard on the both sides at the end of the board. Not a separation of the board. (I don't think) It's been like that for several years, never getting worse, so I think its safe. Looks like a small scrape of the paint on the bass side wing, top side, about 1/2 inch, not through to the wood. Pinhead size ding next to the serial number, wood showing, very small. Starting to have a bit of finish cracking by the headstock. Couple bumps here and there. THis guitar was gigged with, not a sit under the bed guitar.
I'm offering this guitar here for my V Family first. I seriously doubt anyone would be unhappy with it. If anyone wants pictures email me,
veemansj@yahoo.com I don't know if I can name a price on this forum, so email me for that also. I also want to keep it here in the US.
If it wasn't that I bought another guitar, I wouldn't be selling. But that's the way it goes. Nothing is forever.
