Re :   Getting a new V

Yeah, every guitar is different. It´s not all about the year. There are bad ones around from every year of production.

Re :   The madness never ends...

Night fever, night fever........lol.
Maybe Paul Stanley is going to like it.
Anyway it´s a good thing Gibson makes some crazy Vs these days, more to choose from.
And Gibson........not only 70s finish, we need the 70s specs with the Vs.

Re :   Fake or not?

But I was reading some webpages about Gibson guitar cases. It sais than most of the guitars that with a tan case are fake. Although it is for spotting a fake L.P. but is it the same problem for the flying Vs aswell?

thks

p.s. thks V-axe for answering my question. And just wonder did you check the images out?

This is the real thing. A standard Cherry with Gloss finish. Nice!

Re :   Getting a new V

Have a 91. It's great.

I've talked a lot about this with the local Gibson dealer in Stockholm sweden. They say that there's a big quality difference on Gibsons after 92-93. This is all because the success of G'n'R and Slash bringing back Gibson on the market to compete with the 80's banana headstock guitars like Jackson, kramer and so on. Apparently Gibson started to do better guitars just before the mid 90's. I can not in anyway confirm this as I see no difference between a 91 and a 95 V but of course theres a really big difference from the 80's designer series. Try a few and see what you think. In my opinion the standard RI's are very different from guitar to guitar. I don't think that you can buy just any RI. I've seen very bad guitars and very good. They year doesn't seem to be the problem though.

Topic :   Fake or not?

I saw a Gibson flying V on ebay recently.

And I really really want a flying V but I am not sure is this guitar a real or a fake one.

It has a gross cherry finish , the serial number is 01110783 (should be a 2000 model).

It also has an orginal tan case whit it.

He told me it is a standard V but I think it could be a faded cherry.

So i am pretty confuse and really needs the help from you guys.

thks!!!

Re :   Real Or Fake

I believe the serial number is 01110783.
So it should be a 2000 model.
It has a cherry red finish.
The color of the case is tan( according from the owner he said it is orginal).
And just wonder could it a faded V, a standard V or it is a fake one?

Thks for the help

Re :   Getting a new V

I had a white 1989, which I believe was the first year for the reissues. It led an unfortunate life, many headstock breaks, but it was a good guitar when I first got it. I was used to the narrower 70's style neck, so it took me a little while to adapt, but I think you will like it.

Topic :   Getting a new V

This week I'm getting a 1990 "67" Re-issue. I was wondering if this was a good year for V's. I got it pretty cheap. Anyone know what the 1st year of the 67 Re-issue came out....Thanks!

Re :   1981 Gibson Flying V

For strange reasons some of the V's have paint on the binding. Look at the custom colors. The binding shows as a very thin line over the paint. The pre-binding guitars 75-79 have paint all the way up to the edge of the fretboard which is not found on any other gibsons after that period. I'd say yours is original. Damn good price!!

Topic :   1981 Gibson Flying V

Hi!
I recently bought this V on Ebay :
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280419112960&ssPageName=ADME:L:COSI:GB:1123

I visited my guitartech today, he also believed that it`s been refinished.
The reason he mentioned was the paint on the neck, it covers the binding up to the frets.
He said that he`s never seen vintage V`s with that before. (Please check out picture number 2 on the ebay link)

What do you guys think ?
It sounds great though, the rest is original :)

Cheers,
Kilman

Topic :   White Refin guy strikes again!

This vintage guitar dealer in Florida has repainted another original finish '75 Flying V in white.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330378350976&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

This guitar #550935 had the original natural finish before he painted it. Now, I love white V's. I've got one. But I've also got 2 natural V's and would never think of refinishing them. You see I'm a guitar player who love's old V's and not a money-grubbing dealer snob like this guy is.

Further, he leaves out a lot of truths about this guitar. It originally had 2 replacement tuners for the D & G strings, EMG pickups w/added tone pot, and it had a replacement tailpiece (the kind with fine tuners).

He states that "the pickguard and possibly one of the pots are the only parts that are not original"  He knows this is clearly false and I know that this is false as I've got pics of this guitar with those non-original parts on it.

OK, so he puts the similar correct vintage parts back on it but since these parts are not original to this guitar shouldn't he disclose that information?  Wouldn't you want to know this if you were contemplating paying $3K for this instrument?

Sorry for the long post guys. I hate guitar dealers. Most can't even play the opening riff to Smoke on the Water.

Keep on rockin'!

Re :   What Brand/Maker was the FIRST Michael Schenker V?

His first V was  a Gibson (Medallion or 67) that Rudolf handed him diring a early Scorpion gig when he broke a string on his Les Paul.
Michael always considered his guitars as tools which explains why he couldn't tell me the exact model. He does remembre having chiseled out the cherry out of a Medallion but that was not necessarily the first V.

Cheers
Marc
