I´m planning to build or customize a Telecaster type guitar. The Brent Mason Model is close to what I would like, but with the difference that the middle pickup will be a standard telecaster neck pickup.

Have any of you tried a telecaster neck pickup in the middle position and what is your experience of it? I´m talking about the middle position in a Nashville or Brent Mason type Telecaster.

How does it sound and work with a volume blend pot and how will it sound all by itself? Tell me all about it!

I have a Lawrence 280 in the middle position of my bound tobacco burst Tele.  This position for any pickup is a difficult one to guess - something to do with the string harmonics at this particular point.  The neck pup does sound interesting...but I have come to the conclusion - after hours of research and listening - that Telecasters are simply not meant to have more than the two pups they come with.  I've tried 3 different pups in the neck; the stock, a P-94, and now a TV Jones...and I am still not happy.  And, I almost NEVER use the neck+middle or bridge+middle combos.  My Strat is far better suited for that sound.  I've also had 4 different bridge pups; a Duncan (don't know what model), a Fender Tele Noiseless, then a Rio Grande Tallboy, and now a DiMarzio Chopper.  I do like the Chopper because of the versatility.  Mine is wired to a 3 position switch that gives me series (standard humbucking), parallel coils, and single coil.  The parallel position is dead quiet.   I can't stand noise so I must have a dual coil pup, something the purists don't like.  Wish I could afford a Kinman or a Barden...not even sure I'd like those.  But the middle pup thing....I dunno.  I keep wondering what a Rick "toaster" might sound like.
