Given how I intend to use a baritone Telecaster, I've decided that I'm going to leave the alder body au naturale, but I'm going to "tattoo" it on the upper right shoulder (?), above the bridge pickup. I'm going to use chrome hardware on it, but I'm at a loss for what pickguard color will best compliment the natural alder body color. Before I forget, I'll be building my baritone Telecaster with a Telecaster Deluxe body, since I'm planning to use TV Jones MagnaTron pickups. Matt in Indiana

you might want to look thru what they have over at warmoth, there's a lot of colors http://www.warmoth.com/pickguards/pickguards.cfm

black always looks good and so does tortoise on a natural body (at least to me). maybe a flat black? since you're planning on putting some tattoo stuff on it, the flat might let the tattoo stuff "pop", just a thought.

good luck on your project!

For a bare wood look I'd personally go with a classic pearloid or tortiose.

My sense of aesthetics is prolly a little different then most on this forum (24 year old death metal guitarist who somehow wound up in a reggae band) but my thoughts are either black or polished chrome.  I agree with Chuck that a flat / matte black would probably work.

Tortoise always looks good on natural, with lots of chrome, I reckon.

(Are there any colours we haven't covered?)
