Hi everyone, G.I. Joe here and I've got a question about neck pockets.

So I bought a thinline body and maple neck from Eden and I'm finished with the build.

The string are buzzing all over the place and I already adjusted the truss rod to try to compensate.

I have noticed, however, that the neck seems way too high where it is resting in the pocket of the body. I've done two other builds before this one, a strat and an ibanez rg.

It seems to me that if you're looking down the body of the guitar at the heel of the neck, you should see the fretboard and just a little bit of the neck itself.

So I'm considering shaving down a bit of the heel of the neck so that it sits lower. Any thoughts?

Welcome, G.I. Joe! Any chance that you could post a shot or two of your problem? It would be probably easier to solve if we could see it...

As you may be able to see, I've got the saddles all the way up in an attempt to avoid string buzzing, but it's not really helping. I should also mention that this is the first time I've fitted, shaped and slotted a bone nut. But that seems high to me in comparison to my other guitars so I wouldn't imagine that is contributing to the buzz. Thanks in advance.

Where are you hearing the buzzing...at the nut, the bridge, and/or a particular fret or series of frets? Can you give us depth measurements of your neck rout and neck (not including fret height)? Hopefully, we'll be able to figure this out...

The buzzing is pretty much all over the neck, at the frets. Neck pocket on body is 5/8" and the neck is 1" exactly.

Ok, I went back and cut the nut slots a little more at an angle and it got better in both buzzing and tuning stability. Like I said, this was my first nut job (hahaha). Thanks for your help.

Well, the nut was my first thought...hope that turns out to be it! Another test you can try is to put a very small piece of paper under the string in each nut slot, tune it up and see if that helps. If it does, it probbaly means that a slot is a bit too wide or deep. Good luck!
