So, I love the idea of a 12-string telecaster, and I've always wanted a
9 or 10 string (not extra low strings, but doubled/octaves, with the
lowest string, either E and A or E, A, and D undoubled so powerchords
and other low progressions don't sound too muttled).
I took the info from the basic 12-string teles I've seen here and I have a few questions with those mods in mind.
- Can I use a bridge with the raised sides to hold an ashtray?
- Is there a bridge with 6 brass saddles that'll accept and work with
the Gotoh 12-string bridge saddles? I'd use the first 2 or 3 saddles
from the original bridge and the last 3 or 4 from the 12-string bridge.
Or do I have to use a modern-style bridge with strat-style saddles to
work with the Gotoh saddles?
- Can I use a standard tele headstock with the extra tuners? Can I
drill for the new 3 or 4 tuners on a standard tele headstock? I'm not
sure how that'd work unless I used backside turning tuners, like on a
banjo or firebird. If not...
- Can I drill said holes into a paddle-shaped headstock? That seems
more likely, but I love the tele headstock shape, so that idea comes
first.
- And lastly, directly related to the 12-string tele, does a standard
tele bridge pickup (non-rail, 6 poles) pick up all of the strings
equally? In photos, it looks a little like the octave strings are
slightly outside of the pole piece, so it makes me wonder if they pick
up as well. If they don't... is that a good thing, since you may not
WANT them as prominent?
