Does anyone have a really good canine pedigree program to recommend? I've purchased several in the past but have not been happy with any of them.Tonight I spent some time downloading trial versions on a couple of programs but neither of them is satisfactory.I've tried Compu-ped, Breeder's Assistant, and another that I don't remember the name of.Any suggestions would be appreciated.Tania

I like this one

http://www.breedmate.com/default.htm

it can take a while to get to know how to do everything you want but the basics are easy to grasp and there is lots of help available. You can also transfer databases from other programs.

Lots of breeders I know use this program and have found it the best.

I am using Pedigree Assistant (Same website as breeders assistant) http://www.tenset.co.uk/pa/index.html For building pedigrees and just looking at the number of dogs in common between two animals, I have found it very helpful.

Not only that, I can send you my database, which has several hundred dogs in it already, albeit mostly Blacks.

With some effort, you can incorporate data out of MsPedigree into the data base. Its not exactly mark, bound, copy, paste, but with excel, its doable.

Thanks very much for that kind offer - and I may take you up on it some day.  However, my Breeders Assistant program (which I really don't care for that much although I would continue using it if I can't find anything better) is on a computer that is not cooperating with me right now and needs a lot of loving care and attention to get it going again....which means time....which I don't have any of right now.

But it's good to know that you have that.  My database was up to about 3500 dogs before that computer took a nosedive.

MSPedigree is good as far as it goes - but it's no longer being kept up - which is a huge shameful mess that I really resent.  I've offered to take it over but the guy refuses to give it up so it will just set there as it is.

Thanks again,

Tania

OMG I looked at that and nearly went cross-eyed.  It's got too much stuff in it I"d never use.    That's my problem - I'm looking for one that is a little less complex but still covers all the basics.  But thanks for the suggestion.

It's only as complicated as you want it to be!

There is also the http://www.zwerg-schnauzer.info/ site which is getting more dogs added every week, including  a lot of old pedigrees. However they do sometimes write in the dogs names in the european style with the kennel name moved to the end.

It is a huge shame that the MSpedigree site isn;t being kept up to date, I'm sure it is a big job to do but well appreciated by all us pedigree bores!

I had never seen the zwerg-schnauzer site - thanks for mentioning that.  Seems mostly European participation anyway, although they have copied a lot of kennel names from somewhere ....Karen yours is there....

I like the concept they have - it's very similar to the new website I'm making  - Mini Schnauzer Central - which will be for show folk world-wide.  But won't be able to open it until after the yearbook is finished - and I can see the light at the end of the tunnel on that book!  150 pages this year!  It is really a big accomplishment.

Yes, I am very familiar with that site, and QUITE irritated with it!

My pedigrees are there because of the litters whelped in Italy from two of my dogs, and the pedigrees are incorrect. They also gave some dogs titles who didn't have them, and left some off of dogs who did. I've tried to correct them and add to them, and have emailed those people *at least* twice, to no avail. So if anyone is really interested in the pedigrees of my dogs, he needs to go to my webpage to see them. Even MS Pedigree has a couple errors.

Pedigree indicates what the animal should be.
Conformation indicates what the animal appears to be.
But performance indicates what the animal actually is.

I am really suprised by that. I have emailed  yuriysemenov@yandex.ru a couple of times to make corrections to pedigrees and have heard back from them within 24 hours and had the corrections made.

Lucky you!

That site is a TOTAL waste of time, and I would NOT trust *any* of the pedigrees there.

I just downloaded a trial version of "Kin-Traks" from

http://www.kintraks.com/downloads.htm

and it looks like something I would like.  Has anyone tried this program?  (I found it listed on E-bay!)

Man's best friend is a excellent pedigree program. It has everything you need to keep all your records on your dogs.
