I did a search to see if I could find any information, but was unable to locate an answer to my question. Last year Alley was diagnosed with epilipsy and takes 30mbs of phen. two times daily. I thought I read that he should not have one of the yearly vaccinations, but cannot recall which one. Does anyone know? He has an appointment for next weekend and I just want to make sure I remind the Vet.Thanks!

If Alley has had one complete set of shots (even just the puppy shots) I would not get ANY more shots for him at all. And, you need to ask your vet for a waiver letter on the rabies if your state requires that. Epilepsy is such a mystery - no need to aggravate it with additional chemicals in their bodies they don't need!
And don't let the vet talk you into shots either. If he doesn't agree, find a holistic vet in your area to write the waiver letter for you.

Thanks Tania for your advise. I have found a holistic vet near where I live, so I am thinking about taking Allie to see her. Rabies vax are required in my state and my biggest problem now is that I must board Allie when I travel and no place will board if the dog is not up to date on his vaccinations.

Have you talked to your kennel already? Because some places will take a dog on a waiver. Maybe you'll get lucky How about using a pet sitter? They are more money, but it's something to think about. They can be hard to find though. I know there are national websites that list pet sitters, but many pet sitters don't add themselves to the list. I have found names mainly by asking my vet and looking at the notice bulletins at Petco.

You're welcome. The only other option I can think of is to ask if they will accept titer tests, but if rabies is the only issue, those titers can be done but are rarely done because nearly everywhere rabies is required. Anyway, good luck with the holistic vet. I hope it works for you.

I have made an appointment for Saturday with the holistic vet. I'm looking forward to getting a new perspective on Allie's issues with a new vet. Will keep you posted.
