ChickyChickygirl has recommended two great books in this section - both of which I own and enjoyed.I would like to suggest another excellent "dog" read -The New Work of Dogsby Jon Katz. How someone named "KATZ" writes a book on "dogs" has escaped me, but seriously, it's a great book and puts many things into perspective about dog ownership and our selection of a breed. As stated in the jacket liner "Sometimes human-dog relationships are simple, unrelated to the emotional lives and histories of either species. But often people acquire and love dogs with little awareness that they might have complex and revealing reasons for choosing the dog or pet they choose, loving it the way they do".Sometimes we tend to treat our dogs too much like people - which may be dangerous for both the dog and his/her owner. Katz believes that dogs are often treated not as pets, but as family members and human surrogates. In this book, he profiles a dozen such relationships. You may not agree with everything that Katz writes, but I am sure you will find it thought-provoking, amusing and frequently very tender.Molly's Dad (aka Bill)
