Last night, JASPER, completed the intermediate level of training, and we signed up to go on to the advanced level in a few weeks. Frankly, I told the instructor that I wasnt sure that he is really READY to handle advanced level work, because he is only 7 months now, and is still rather flighty, and often 'chatty' with the other dogs. She assured me that he is ready, and needs to continue on the track, maintain the practice, and he had shown alot of progress. Indeed, he HAS progressed greatly. But I still had some reservations at the time, and frankly thought he might be better of waiting for another few months. Well, last night, during 'ceremonies'... he was quiet, and polite, and.. I was totally shocked! I even asked him to do a couple of down-stays and he did it the first time i asked him. I wanted to know who stole my DOG!!! Anyway, He will be continuing to the next level, and as an added bonus, the class is going to get CGC testing for free, since the Instructor is picking up a new certification for herself. Hey, who knows?! He may complete that one too!! Its just so strange that all of a sudden he has this AH HA! moment and everything clicks. As a side note, as I was walking him in a heel, i noticed that his gait has come together too.. he has found that sort of canter for the show ring. This is too much for my head.. it hurts...

Some dogs are just show offs and are born to be in the show ring. My dogs would win in the "fetch the ball, hop like a bunny and never let anyone get close enough to grab the ball from me " category. We are booked at dog agility camp for a week in June. I'll be sleeping in a tent so the " I think I might be a rabbit" routine had better wear off quickly or there'll be hell to pay.

Stew, that sounds like a LOT of fun! Take your raincoat, just in case<G>

Katie currently is in the middle of a three-day agility seminar with Susan Perry and a Debbie Somebody-or-Other (Hutchinson?). She is video-taping herself and a bit of the rest of the seminar with her new video-camera (they now have DISKS instead of tape!), so I got to see a bit of it last night after she got home. I am itching to get my hands on that video-camera, so I just might have to go to one of her upcoming trials in order to try it out<G> Now we will be able to transfer videos directly to our computers from the videocam! In order to appease my spirit, I bought myself a new camera lens.... now we just need some warmer weather and sprouting plants so that I can use it<G>

Al, you must remember that it takes six weeks for a dog to transfer things from short-term into long-term memory. Hence the "fifth-week regression" during training. That is why you are starting to see things suddenly "click". This applies to everything but the naughty things they try out-of-the-blue that give them immediate gratification.    LOL! For some reason, those are instant revelations that they never forget<G>

Pedigree indicates what the animal should be.
Conformation indicates what the animal appears to be.
But performance indicates what the animal actually is.
