I am interested in showing him and am looking for a professional handler. I understand that the dog may need to live with the handler while he is being shown.
There are a number of good handlers in the country, but they do tend to book ahead. Has your dog been evaluated? Who did you get him from? (And that would be the best person to ask your questions.) Has he been stripped out?

Thank you for your reply. I guess I should have provided some of those answers to begin with. First of all, my boy has been stripped since he was a puppy. I have done the stripping, although some of the lines may not be exact. I showed standard schnauzers in the past, so I have dealt with schnauzer coats (although I must say the standards were easier!).
I got my boy from Michelle Otis. She used to live in Nebraska, but moved and I don't have any way to contact her. He was evaluated at the age of one year (about 8 months ago) by two different handlers. I don't recall their names, as a friend of mine that shows norwich introduced me to them when I was at a show with my boy. At the time, I wasn't really seeking a handler. Coming from standards, I guess I've always waited until the dogs matured, as that is a big consideration when competing with a working breed. Also, I knew I would be out of the country sometime in the coming year and wanted to try to coordinate my dog being gone with me being gone. What can I say, I love Chase (that's my boy) and wanted to enjoy as much time with him as I could before leaving.
I realize that a lot of handlers book in advance, but maybe I'll get lucky and he can at least start his show career during my absence. If not, that's ok too and I'll deal with that. I don't think that there are really a lot of handlers in my area, so I've already resigned myself to the fact that he will need to live away from me for awhile. Also, even though I have worked with standards, I know that the grooming is different and more refined with the minis, and I know when I am in over my head. So I would need to send him to someone who could get him ready so he had the best chance in the ring.
Any recommendations would be appreciated. And as I said, I want not just good handlers, but those that I should avoid as well.

Doug Carlson in OK does a nice job; I first met him when he was doing Wires. I got to see him with MS a few times this month. http://www.akc.org/handlers/states/OK.cfm
You might want to subscribe to Schnauzer Shorts Magazine, if you don't already. I really am not up on all the current handlers and their locations.
