How do I get Bailey to be my little thingy by my name? What do you call it a aviator?Jen
Jen you have to go through your control panel. It's called the Avatar.

And make sure that the photo is SMALL or it will take up most of the window*g*. WYSIWYG.... what you see is what you get....

Hi, I went to the area where you change your avatar, and it says to enter the URL to your photo....Sounds like this means I can't post a photo of my doggie unless it already is on a web page....Correct?
Thanks--Susan

Yes, this is correct, but many of you already have photos of your dogs up on Dogster. All you need is some online photo album that would have a URL to the photo you want.... just make sure it is SMALL. It is recommended that the avatar be no larger than 100 pixels.

Ok, I resized the picture again so that the width was 100 pixels, and made it my primary dogster picture. Then I pasted the link on the "change my avatar" page. It didn't work, probably because I linked the entire page. How do you link just the picture? I thought I was computer literate but.......!!!

How to get your Dogster photo as your Avatar:
Go to the HOME page of Dogster where in the lower left corner is a good size photo for the avatar. It is important that you go to the HOME page of Dogster and NOT to your dog's home page. The photos on the dog's page are generally too large. The one on the home page of Dogster is generally small enough.
Right click on the photo and when the window opens, go down to the bottom where it says "Properties". Highlight the URL under the address being sure to get the full two lines. Hit Control C and this will place that URL address into your computer's "memory".
Then come back to the Forum and follow the directions to change your Avatar. When you have to add the URL of the photo, in that spot hit: Control V. Now the address you copied from the Dogster photo will appear in that space. When you are done, you should have a good sized photo Avatar.
I wish you luck. If you still cannot do it - send me an email at wtroetel@westnet.com or a private message here and I will give you my phone number and I can walk you though the process.

Thank you, Molly's Dad (Bill). It worked. Now I just need to resize it so that more dog and less bed shows. Resize the original, set it as the main photo, which I assume will be the little picture on the home page, then do what you told me over again.
I'm set! Thanks again.

Hi, I followed Bill's instructions to get Gus for my avatar and now I have a REALLY BIG picture of Gus. How do I make it smaller? Sorry to be so dumb.
Thanks

Hi Anna
I know exactly what you did to get such a large avatar. You took the URL address from Gus's Dogster page. That's the wrong place. Go to Gus's home page and near the very top of his page, click on "Home". This takes you to the Dogster home page.
Scroll down and the main picture you have on Gus's home page should be near the bottom left of the Dogster home page under " Your Family".
Now right click on that small photo and then follow my previous directions. It will give you an avatar of a more appropriate size.
I will be looking to see if you were successful.
All the best, Bill

Here's a mystery! I got my avatar on several weeks ago and it was fine. But all of a sudden it stopped appearing!! Any ideas why?

Where are you linking your pictures from? If the site is down, then that could be one explanation. Or you might have exceeded either your daily transfer limit or your monthly limit at whatever site you use. I'm using villagephotos.com and get 600MB each month, but can only use up to 20% in any one day. I only use Baron's pic as my avatar for Simply Schnauzers, so my monthly usage is very low (maybe 2-3% of what I'm allowed each month).

I am using the photo link from the home page of Dogster, not Ripley's page, but the site home page. and Now looking at this forum page, folks who had one before, now don't, ie ChickyChickygirl and Mollys dad. If some of our avatars came from the same place, that would make a lot of sense.

I thought Halloween was three days ago???????????????

Susan,
Mollys_Dad is linked from Dogster too, so I think you are right that it's related to their site. It will probably be back soon, but you might consider changing to a free image hosting site instead if it keeps happening. Most places won't let you remote link your avatars like Dogster is currently doing, so maybe there's been a change with their policies.

Since we are on the subject of avatars, I would like to take this opportunity to please ask members to keep their avatars to less than 100 X 100 pixels in size. Anything larger makes for very slow uploads for members with dial-up service and also distorts the tables in the forum, making posts hard to read.
Thanks!

Thanks for the tip, I switched from dogster photo for my avitar to villagephotos. It didn't take long, as my learning curve was with the dogster website! And, I reduced the size to 100 pixels for those who suffer thru dial up
Hey! And the village photo turns out larger than dogster...I'm happy!!

Kristin - thanks so much for turning me onto Village Photos.com. It's a snap to use and lots of fun. I was using Dogster for Molly's avatar and like others in this thread, Molly's photo disappeared. The new one I got was too large, so after using the Village Photo, I got a manageable sized avatar for my girl.
In case anyone would like to see all 7 photos I posted on Village photos, go here: http://www.villagephotos.com/pubbrowse.asp?folder_id=1516997
I hope you enjoy Molly's halloween outfit - see the last two pictures.
Many thanks again.

Bill,
Glad you like villagephotos, I've been really happy with them too. Loved Molly's pics--especially her costume--she looks like she even enjoyed wearing it (wish Baron did too).
