On that very first night, she got into bed with me, laid her head on my pillow and just stared into my eyes. Such love and devotion.....things that I enjoyed for 11 years.
My heart is breaking for you Lori. Prayers and positive healing thoughts sent your way.

My heart goes out to you, Lori. You were the best mom to Sasha. She's at the Rainbow Bridge watching you right now, smiling and remembering your love for her.

Lori,
I'm sure Sasha was forever grateful for the day you adopted her and showed her a life filled with love and care after the tough times she had experienced earlier in her life. I will keep you in my prayers as you grieve for your girl. I hope that memories of the unconditional love you shared will bring you peace.

Lori;
I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. A friend sent this poem to me when I lost my boy Scooter 18 months ago. I'm not sure who the author is but I hope it gives you a little comfort in your pain.
FROM FRIEND TO FRIEND
You're giving me a special gift,
So sorrowfully endowed,
And through these last few cherished days,
Your courage makes me proud.
But really, love is knowing
When your best friend is in pain,
And understanding earthly acts
Will only be in vain.
So looking deep into your eyes,
Beyond, into your soul,
I see in you the magic, that will
Once more make me whole.
The strength that you possess,
Is why I look to you today,
To do this thing that must be done,
For it's the only way.
That strength is why I've followed you,
And chose you as my friend,
And why I've loved you all these years...
My partner 'til the end.
Please, understand just what this gift,
You're giving, means to me,
It gives me back the strength I've lost,
And all my dignity.
You take a stand on my behalf,
For that is what friends do.
And know that what you do is right,
For I believe it too.
So one last time, I breathe your scent,
And through your hand I feel,
The courage that's within you,
To now grant me this appeal.
Cut the leash that holds me here,
Dear friend, and let me run,
Once more a strong and steady dog,
My pain and struggle done.
And don't despair my passing,
For I won't be far away,
Forever here, within your heart,
And memory I'll stay.
I'll be there watching over you,
Your ever faithful friend,
And in your memories I'll run,
...a young dog once again.

Lori, I am so very sorry for your loss. I lost my first Miniature Schnauzer to the same problem, congestive heart failure, at the same age, 11 years old. There just are no words. Sasha was such a very special little dog to you.

Lori, I am so very sorry about your losing Sasha. It is terribly hard to say goodbye to a beloved pet. I bet you are right, she is waiting for you, and she probably is thinking that she doesn't want you to be too sad, since you gave her a wonderful life and she knew she was loved every single day. She was a very lucky girl.

Lori, so sorry for you loss of Sasha. Sounds like the two of you must have gone through so much together--vet school, getting started in your career, your "grown-up" life and all that goes with it. Wishing you strength and peace as you grieve your special friend, Sasha.
I like to think there's little troup of schauzers at the bridge, all waiting together--playing and enjoying the sunshine and each other's company--until their people arrive.
Hugs to you and your family,
Karen

Thank you to everyone for all of the positive thoughts. It is so wonderful to have such a community of caring people here on these boards.
I just wanted to say that my urn arrived today for her, and I highly recommend it to anyone who would be interested. The website is www.angelashes.com and I chose the one with the angel looking down on her picture. There are many types to choose from, but I thought this one best suited her b/c she was certainly an angel while she was on this earth, and no doubt she is with the angels now.

Hi Lori . . .
If we didn't love them so much, it wouldn't hurt so bad. I bet you wouldn't even think of giving back your 11 wonderful years with Sasha to save the tears you now shed. In January we lost our Smokey after 14 beautiful years. I wouldn't trade them for anything. For us, getting another mini right away was the best thing we could have done. I know it's not for everyone, but it worked better than I ever expected for us. Izzy is Love and Joy personified. I still call her Smokey sometimes, but that's OK. Just means I still Love him. You say you'll always have Schnauzers in your Life . . . that tells me you'll find your way through this grief . . . and that there's a lucky little dog out there that has no idea of the Love that will come its way.

I'm terribly sorry for your loss. I don't know what I would do without my little buddy Spencer beside me. They certainly bring a joy to our lives, but their memories will live forever.

Hi Lory,
I am very sorry for your loss. Dealing with the loss is very hard. We lost our first mini at 15, four years ago and it still hurts. We had a second mini at that time and it really helped. We then went out and found another mini pup, and so far she has been great and filled the void. Our second mini who is now 12 was diagnosed with heart failure around 10 days ago. She is on meds and is doing o.k. This one is gong to be hard too. They each have there special place in your heart. Again, I am sorry for your loss. Possibly you can find a new mini pup and it will really help.

My schaeffer wasn't an ms, but having lost such a wonderful companion and i can totally empathisize with you and good for you memorializing it here.
I think there will always be that special little place for past dogs in our hearts and we can continue to appreciate their affects on our lives by giving
our present dogs that much more care and consideration.
There is no way around the fact that most of us will probably outlive our canine companions. I always make a pledge to each dog I've had that I will not force them to live a life lacking in quality, simply because letting them go would be heartbreaking to me. They deserve at least that much for all the years of joy they give us.
