What is your guys opinion about the javelin in the state of WV? It doesnt have to be a state competition Im just asking for it as an event in some invites in the state. I know Charleston can not handle the javelin event. Just asking what you think. Just reply Thank You

I think it's a great idea for those places that have the facilities and capabilities to have javelin at there school it would be good since you are able to throw it in college it would give the kids a chance to throw it before they ever went to college!!!!

I think if the facilities are there it would be a great idea to have the event, but the WVSSAC stated in no uncertain terms that if it wasn't an adopted event for West Virginia that it was illegal to participate in that event even if you are out of state at a meet,

Why is the state of WV doing this. I know that in some schools in Ohio throw the Hammer and they do not have it as an event at state competition. The Meets should be broken down into some more field events as well. The state of WV is to centered around sprints. We are one of the only states that still compete in the shuddle hurdles. Most states dropped this event and picked up triple jump or something else.
I was just wondering if the state would try to change their minds on having some of these events avalible to some of the schools and to the schools on the border of the state to go out of state and compete in events the state of WV does not offer.

I have talked about this before. The javelin is a great deal safer and cheaper than the pole vault. A javelin cost between $150 to $300 whereas poles are outrageous.  An athlete does not outgrow a javelin like they do in the pole vault. In Pennsylvania most schools don't have a javelin runway just a marked off area in an open field, compare that to the cost of a certified pole mat an equipment.  How many high school athletes are hurt in the javelin as compared to the pole vault. Look at single A girls pole vault at the state meet, two schools have dominated the event because of facilities(yes there is good coaching too) they have. More athletes would participate in the javelin than the pole vault and isn't that the reason they gave for splitting aa-a a few years back, which I was against also. One last rant, why do we still run the shuttles in WV. It is not a hurdle race just another sprint event.
