Remakes of classics nearly always disappoint
But i did like the Battlestar Galactica

Free stuff is best ! :) ,
I am a " flight line mechanic " i service the BAE Hawks at RAF Valley on 19th squadron
If you search google images for XX184 , XX307and " the red arrows" you will see the jets i work on
i have just had promotion so as from next week i will be working in the engine bay , striping and rebuilding the Rolls Royce Ardour jet engines .

I have got some 3mm sheet steel offcuts from the workshops in work today , the manager was very interested when i told him what i wanted it for :)
the weather is still bad , they had to cancel flying yeserday afternoon  and again today , the jets were all grounded !

Don't think i will get much done this weekend it is blowing a gale here and we have floods , i had to take a detour on my way home as there was a landslide on the pen-y-pass :(

I made a start :)

Posted on 11/09/2009 02:45 AM

I have read about ackerman , not sure i get it :) , no doubt it will become clear as i build it .
i took pictures on my phone but even though my computer says i am paired to my phone by blue-tooth and everything is working fine (passwords match and are accepted) it refuses to send the pictures over :( , next time i will use my girlfriends camera , it connects by wire , i have used it before successfully .
it was a great sense of achievement to get something built , to make a start , the project is now " in progress" :)

Yea :) , the wind held off , the sun even came out for a little bit , i got some cutting and welding done , the borrowed welder worked fine , the magnets with the 90' were great , i decided on 1.3m for the width . i made the rear bulkhead/wheel holders  and the front wheel carriers ( a cage like thing to support both sides of the front axles ) , i have read about caster, camber and KPI  not sure how to get them swiveling at several differant angles at once !!
i have been looking on ebay for some rose joints , there are loads of types , think i need to go to a stockists so i can see them and see how they fit  .

If the weather holds , i just might get some cutting and welding done today , fingers crossed :)

bit of a setback , my gazebo blew away  :(   , so i will have to wait for the wind to die down a bit and straighten and relocate it before i can start on my chassis .

Also some of my mates locally fancy the way you guys do things but don't want to be tied by rules , just have fun ! so if they can pull their fingers out and get building we might just get in a bit of " illegal hill action "

Posted on 11/01/2009 05:43 AM

Yea it is arranged a lot different over this end , but i don't see why a cart built to the rules for the "official scene" cant be used in the manner that you enjoy , i have seen a couple of bike wheeled carts doing the hills in australia
Here :  http://vimeo.com/channels/undergroundsoapbox
so i was hoping to be able to do both , but if things work out (or not) i wouldn't mind having a cart for each :)

Thanks for that mate , and i joined the yahoo and managed to get on your link in the end :) . great bit on bike brakes as well

Posted on 10/31/2009 14:42 PM

Hi , i tried that link before , there is only one pic and the links dont work unless you have a yahoo account , I dont :( , the link on camber etc is blank .
i have seen a few bike wheels buckle in the pics and vids , it seems to happen when they slide and cop a curb , i went to a recycling centre today and asked about 20inch BMX wheels , they will let me have them at £1 each :)
i am going to try and make it to  :  http://www.appleheadgravitysport.co.uk/  cadwell park
(What is this other unrelated stuff ? blue eyed ? winning bitches ?)

I have also joined : http://www.ukgsa.org/index.htm
they run some legal events around the UK ( although none in my country WALES)

Posted on 10/31/2009 05:24 AM

WOOOhOOO , i collected my steel yesterday ( 1 inchX1inch 16g) 18metres :) , i am using bicycle BMX 20inch wheels , these bikes are tough and do stunts with big jumps so the wheels should take a bit of punishment (as they only have 12mm spindles i am suporting them on both sides), i have put up my "outside workshop" (its a gazeebo in my back yard) , i pick up the mig on monday so for now its more doodles and plans :)
does anyone know what the magic amounts of camber, caster, KPI ,etc ?
