Got an email from Bernie last night that her husband went into the hospital (I'm assuming in Fargo) this past Monday for tests.   Seems to be a couple of things going on ... either of which could be a tough battle.

Bernie's ALWAYS the first to take someone's troubles to prayer so I wanted to let everyone know so we can keep Bernie and Jim in our thoughts and prayers as they go through another week (or more) of tests and diagnosis.

Hopefully, she'll get a chance to check in before she heads back to Fargo or can get her laptop to work when she gets back there.

I'll try to call Bernie today on her cell phone to see how things are going.   Jim had another surgery last year, which he recovered from fine but it also meant changes in his lifestyle.      Just hoping these tests turn out okay for him.

Gwen ... you can email Bernie at bernie@tenderfootsocks.com

Okay, here is the update.   It is not good news, but in a way it is.  Reason Jim has been diagnosed with duplex (advanced) non-hodgsons Type B Lymphoma.   It is in stage III, which means pretty much throughout his body.  We need to wait for the bone marrow test to find out if it's in the bone marrow.   He also had diverticulitis, which antibodics have treated, as well as laxtose intolerance, which is also now under control.   The good news about any of this is : Since he has cancer, he picked the better one to have because it is treatable..  His prognosis is as good as it can be.   I came home late last night (He is in the VA Hospital in  Fargo, and getting the best treatment.  they are really taking good care of him,  I have stayed with him throughout the testing etc until we got a diagnosis.)   I had to come home since our gardening is producing and need to process the produce...any since it is basically organically grown, and this is what the doctors prefer him to eat...(which we have for years) this is going to be an important part for his diet.  Our oldest son, Ed, some of you have met has been doing the canning and taking care of things while we were gone, but he had registered for a 4 day school to complete his training phase in the Egala Program where he is studying to be a Equine Therapist, Certified to work with horses and deliquent kids in the juvenile system in a program called BRINGING BACK THE HORSES... and his dad wanted him to not continue because of him...so he went, I came home, Jim's doing the chemo thing, I'm returning on Sunday.  PET SCAN on Monday, then hopefully back home Tuesday.  Then every 21 days for the next 6-7 months outpatient chemo, then radiation treatments...so it is a long process, but we are dealing with a treatable situation, and PRAYER is the best medicine.  So thanks to all who are praying. it is really appreciated and the best medicine that we can get.

I'll try to check in now and then, I promise to keep someone posted and they can share with the rest of all the good people on Lynn's Front Porch. gotta run, a neighbor just stopped by and offered to help me pick the cabbage, am going to take him up on it..  thanks a whole bunch people, will get back to you soon. bernie

Bernie, I am so sorry to hear this!  You and he have both been through a lot with your health.  I will certainly continue to pray for both of you; please let us know how he gets along, and don't forget to take care of yourself, too!

Paula

Prayer Warrior
(Date Posted:08-11-2008 02:40:44)

Dear Bernie, My Prayer Warrior ...

I'm getting BETTER at Praying.  I used to think that, with all my flaws, I
couldn't expect my Prayers to be Heard ... much less answered.  BUT ... the
more time I spend on my knees, the more I think God just might hear me.

I'll say a little Prayer right now, in my Hotel room in Tucson, Arizona ... in
hopes that "Man Above" sends some Blessings and Healing to YOU and Jim.

Muchlove,
Lynn

Bernie:

you and jim are in our prayers. I am glad that he is getting good care at the VA hospital in Fargo. I hope that things go well for him. You are truly our prayer warrior. Thank you for all the times you have kept Frank and I in your prayers.

Lynn as far as prayer is concerned I always felt like the Lord could care less about what was going on in my life because of all my imperfections. I learned a great big lesson. He really does care and loves us a great deal. That is one thing that I have really learned in the past year. Its hard for me to kneel because of my legs but he hears from me alot. I will never be perfect in this life, but the Lord does care what is going on in your life. Take if from someone who learned it late in life. God bless you all.

Thanks for all your prayers!  They are being answered.   Brought Jim home on Monday evening, we figured he would be staying for another week..but they discharged him, to return on Friday for an outpatient chemo session.   As it stands now he will then wait 28 days for his next session for the total of 6-8 sessions.   He is on chemo meds at home and am having to give him shots (darn--being a former nurse still gets me nonimated for such duties) and his chemo oral meds, which he is tolerating very well.   He has a very positive attitude, and laughing and joking around like he always does.  He has faith in his medical care staff, and more important has faith in the BIG GUY....and his grandkids love him to death, and are also praying for him.   The grandson that lives with us (5) wrote his grandpa a song, so that he can get healed faster...a song that is actually a prayer for his gramps, as he calls him.   the 5 year old granddaughter just cuddles up with him... t he others do the same in there turn...so with the prayers of children, along with all other s prayers...The BIG GUY is totally in control here, and will answer the prayers in HIS Manner.

And nobody is unworthy to have there prayers answered..if that were the case...none of my prayers would have ever been heard, nonetheless answered.   Again, thanks for all your prayers.  Thank you Lynn, for taking the time to pray for Jim's recovery and you are ALWAYS in my prayers, as are the needs of all my friends on Lynn's Front Porch.   Thank you kindly one an all!    And remember we are thinking positive on all sides, and standing in faith here.    Will try to keep you updated as much as time will allow...this situation is very time consuming---but also very life giving... gotta run for now... Peace and Blessings from North Dakota.    Bernie

PS.  Must Add, this VA Hospital does care for there Veterans!  Jim couldn't be in better hands...and the VFW Volunteers are ready and able to assist the Vets in whatever there needs may be as well..Most of whom are Veterans themselves, or spouses of Vets.

Bernie I'm glad to hear that things are going well for Jim and you. Be happy you've got that nursing experience behind you. If it wasn't for the experience I've had in caregiving Fred's first few months at home would have been very different.
Jim's attitude will play a big part in his TX's and recovery and also in the way you feel.Never would have made it the 19 months that Fred was hospitalized and going through rehab if it wasn't for his attiude and sense of humor. He has such a marvelous attitude. He still says there is someone worse off.
I will continue to keep Jim and his loving caregiver in my prayers as well as all others here who visit.
God Bless, Eileen
