Your theory is well founded in both the Dharma video and in the general lore of the series I think. I've been thinking on this one and here's some extrapolation: could there be anti-matter doubles of the cast that were produced by the Casimir effect present on the island? Could this account for dissapearing and reappearing characters like Claire - perhaps she is made up not of normal matter but exotic particles that do not hold strictly to the same laws we are familiar with. What happens to an anti-matter being after its matter double is destroyed...are their existances dependant on eachother in any way? Could this account, in some part, to the need for those who left the island to return?
That's some rabbit hole, I encourage others with better awareness of quantum-physics to explore this further!
