I have had Horse Guard fence up in my pastures for nearly 7 years. Mine is set on wooden posts and is very securely. I have only had to tension it twice in all that time. First was due to a 3 inch ice storm that did cause it to sag some. Second time, my two mares got into a scrabble in a corner of course! Mystic got pushed into the fence bigtime. Luckily I happen to be there when this happen. The fence stretched , popped off the corner insulator (top strand only) and shot back into the pasture like a slingshot. Mystic did not have a mark on her . As luck would have it, the fence actually snapped back and shocked Bambi who was causing the trouble to start. Short of that, no problems - it holds up well to heavy snow, high winds, hasn't weaken from the sun, hasn't even grayed ( I have white).
I would suggest ordering their catalog. It comes with samples of the fence. Take the sample with you and compare it to others that you can buy locally before you decide.

When you purchased your Horse Guard fencing system, did it come with any warantee or guarantee? Basically what I am trying to establish is if this company stands by their product. I have been looking at the different types of horse fencing available in my area and out of the five companies I have contacted, only 2 are willing to stand by their product with what I feel is a pretty good all around warrantee. They all have guaranteed the basic issues, but only 2 of these companies were willing to back up their promises with warantees.

Thanks, all.
I haven't purchased Horseguard yet, but I'm doing some research and asking opinions about it.
Thank you for the heads-up, Kigers4ever. I'll make sure I look carefully into warranties and guarantees while I'm searching.

LRD:
You might also want to find out how long the company has been in business and where their offices are located. Years ago, when these types of fencings became available, my Aunt bought it for her new farm. She and my Uncle dished out a bundle. They bought what they thought was a great warrantee and say back to admire their fence. By the time the first winter had passed, parts of the fence had become brittle and unreliable. They thought they would be alright as the warantee covered factory flaws and weather damage but when they tried to contact the number on the policy, they got nothing more than a recording saying that the number was no longer in service. The company had poped up out of nowhere, lasted 6 months and was out of business. Make sure you do your homework, ask lots and lots of questions and get ALL the promises in writing!!!!

I have used 1 1/2" electric tape for many, many years. I tried 2 brands and like Safe Fence. I can't remember the other brand but it was the one John Lyons endorses. The 2nd brand looked bad after a few seasons and had a bunch of mossy like stuff on it. I called the company and they said that won't hurt it, it will still work. The Safe Fence never did that. THe other brands' tensioners were easier to tighten once installed but I believe the Safe Fence ones are more secure. I did have my young horse go through 3 strands once to get to a mare in season (he was gelded too). THey had talked over the fence first. I've never had a problem with my mare and the young one with this fence between them. If I had horses that might have big issues I'd likely run a second strand a few feet within the line so that they couldn't touch noses. Also, I don't live on a busy road. But, cost wise for fencing a big area it was great. Also, he broke a bottom strand once, probably from getting a foot on it when rolling. He was unhurt. I also had a deer hook a foot on the top strand and stretch it way out but it did not break. It is easy to fix. I can put it up myself and I am not strong. I like the stuff a lot. Safe Fence is sold through Valley Vet. I've never needed to deal with them on warranty issues but they've been around quite some time. I believe the manufacturer is J. W. Williams.

I just remembered I did try a 3rd kind. It was cheap. I think also through Valley Vet and I think made by Red Snapper. I can check for sure if it's important to you. I thought I could use it to cross-fence and save some money. I did use it but it was way too flimsy for my liking. In fact, a strand of it might have been in that 3 strands that broke that time with the colt and mare. There was a HUGE difference in quality with that cheap stuff.
