To help reduce the fly population here I useFly Predatorsfrom Spalding Labs. If you have never used them, I can attest to their value. I will receive my first 2006 shipment this week, and then monthly shipments thru September. I release 10,000 per month except I release 20,000 in June and July. They arrive in a small box every month and I simply set the package in my barn and open it. After that, I never see them again. They spread out and destroy the face fly larvae before they ever hatch, and I would estimate they get rid of 90% of our face flies. I have had very good success with these Fly Predators. For more information go towww.305.spalding-labs.comBill Smith

My neighbor is talking about doing this.  Is it for face flies only or house flies too?

Cindy,

I am not certain I have the answer to your question. But I think the answer is they work on all flies except horse flies. But I can tell you they sure do a good job. They are tiny little things and look like ants with wings. And the cost is pretty reasonable. Spalding determines how many fly predators you need every month depending on your climate and the number of horses you have. I get enough for @ 10 horses and it costs me @ $200/year. I use almost no fly spray.

Oh, I'm so glad to hear they work on face flies. I can't stand those things. I thought from their literature that they might not work on them as well as other flies so your posting is perfectly timed. They have a horse fly trap that looks easy to make in their literature too. We're going to try making one of those too.

There is no greater compliment than the trust of your horse.
