Being in the beautiful Pacific North West we live with an abundance of rain. This depending on the condition of your soil and non absorbent surface runoff you deal with MUD! We were blessed with the added runoff from development in our surroundings which increased water flow onto our property beyond our imagination and ability to control. The culverts became plugged with the debris carried by the water through ditches not maintained by the government agencies responsible. We were blessed with an unexpected windfall, the utility company was having trees trimmed by a private contractor who asked if we needed chipped vegetative material as they needed a place to dump - oh joy! They were happy to deliver many piles of chipped vegetation at no cost. The material did not contain any types of plants toxic to our stock so we spread it in the muddy pens and fields. The animals loved it as bedding and something to munch on. So it might be worth while for others to seek out those companies that are cutting up downed trees and or doing utility contracts to see if they need a dump site. Another happenstance was our running into a landscaper while we were loading hay, it seems he has need of manure from time to time and additionally receives requests for same. We offered him all we generate this spring. Here again others might ask around to see if they can develope a working relationship with a landscaper or organic farmer to see how they would like you to handle the manure for their eventual use.We all face these issues and by networking solutions we can improve our community and relations with other bussiness people to everyone's advantage. Remember your problem might be another's benefit.
