2007 Celebration of the HorseOnce each year, for 2 days in the Fall, the streets of Metamora are filled
with horses, horse owners and horse lovers.
Early on Saturday morning the crisp, cool air stirs with excitement as the hounds, horsemen and horses of the Metamora Hunt Club gather at the Historical White Horse Inn to begin their hunt, passing through the streets of Metamora and greeting visitors to Metamora and The Celebration of the Horse festivities.
A horse-drawn trolly conveys visitors from the parking areas
at Metamora Products and Metamora Lions Club
to a Pancake Breakfast at the Masonic Lodge.
Later, around 11 am, the Celebration Parade fills the streets...
Children's activities, breed displays, the farmer's market, vendor's displays, training demos, talks and demos by farriers, pony rides, team penning, stable tours, historic carriage rides, veterinarians, line dancing, a quadrille, and food, food and more food highlight the days of the Celebration!http://www.equinegatherings.comhttp://www.celebrationofthehorse.com/index.htmlTheGreat Lakes Kiger Clubenjoyed their first official public exhibition last weekend at the 2nd annual Celebration of the Horse. Saturday morning Springtime and Linda rode in the parade, and I walked along side carrying a club sign. After the parade we went back to the breed display area and set up a small table with literature about the Kigers. This included Linda's photo album and the recent Kiger artilcle in Sadle Up magazine. We were allowed to display one horse in the 10X10 pipe corrals that had been generously donated by our local TSC store. Springtime spent all daySaturday snuggling with everychild that walked by with apples and horse snacks. She was so popular that Linda finally had to kindly ask that she no longer be given any treats for fear of a belly ache.Sunday afternoon Rocky had the honor of being on display at the Kiger booth. He was a true gentleman, and I was unbelievably proud! Like Spring, he was also a crowd favorite and snuggled with everyone, young and old, thatwalked by.As this washis first public outing I was very happy to see how relaxed and at ease he was with the whole situation. In the one brief lull that we did have towards the end of the day he wasso relaxed that he even took a little cat nap. Needless to say, I cannot even count the number of offers I hadfrom other horse people to take him home. I just gave them a big grin and said he's my boy! This was usually followed by a big kiss on the cheek from Rock. Nodoubts in his mind who he wants to go home with! All in all I would consider the entire weekend a success. A few of the things that really stood out to me where how many people already knew aobut the Kigers. In fact there was one woman that had just come back from Oregon, and she has been looking for a Kiger of her own. People showed a genuine interest in the breed, and more than a few said there were going to call us to come out and look at the horses. The other thing that I really appreciated was the reception we received from the Andalusian breeders. We met more than a few over the weekend, and they were absolutely wonderful. The also showed a genuine interest, and kept coming back with more questions.Ellen
