Hi fellas,

A bit of info based on experience with both sizes of tyres mentioned. Jammy ,while its possible that the sizes on specification sheets may be larger for a particular manufacturer. in reality the standard michelins 9.00 16`s are significantly taller (deeper sidewalls) than the 235 85 16`s. The 235 85`s came standard on my Ford F350 pick-up (overal diameter about 32") I have replaced these with 255- 85`s and also 295-75`s (both about 33" dia.) In reality I havnt measured the 900-16 `s on the RB44 but they are incredibly taller and heavier. Best advice realy is that Andy from Dorset should be knowledgable on the swap from twins to single wheels ,I know he has purchased RB items from withams ,he might even have some to sell him. The result he is after is like the Metallic red RB 44 camper Ex-Electric board truck belonging to "B D " in the photo gallery of Dodge 50 site. Some utility company RBs came with twin wheels and others  singles as we see.I imagine they were all on the same axles and drums .

Now you know where the 350 comes from. regards JFB.

on reflection,it seems to me that if Tez is not reaching the GVW of the 7.5 ton truck

He needs to find out the plated weight of the single wheel equiped vehicle that MEB used,

or suitable weight if changing to a camper .   Possibly downrate the plated weight for                  test      and  modify springs & bumpstops)

Remove the rear inner wheels, buy  2 new 900-16s and just put the outer wheels back on .

           Thats my guess.      JFB 350

I've just found the overall diameter for a Landrover Forward Control 9x16 for you JF.

It's close to 36 inches.

As JF says Tez, the 900*16 is taller that the 235/85R16. -x- By about 4".

Do you know of any radial ply 900x16s JF?

All the ones that I can remember seeing are not radial. -x- Certainly the Landrover ones aren't radial, the enthusiasts that I know report that the non radial ones are lethal in the wet and swap to 235/85 -x- all except the died in the wool, 'it's gotta be absolutely original' enthusiasts that is.

If you swop to 235/85, you'll drop your gearing to around 80% of the 900x16 non radials Tez.

That means that when your speedo shows 50, you'll be doing about 40.

If you have the direct top gearbox, and swop to the overdrive top box, you'll more or less overcome the speed reduction.
