How fast am I going to have to push a cast bullet to keep them from going so blasted far right. I am for the most part out of windage. Rams at 200M, hold on the right hand leg and it will hit the left hand leg............. I have seen I am not the only one that has had this problem, but I have never seen the "cure" posted any where to my memory. I am going to go shoot some paper today and burn the rest of two lots and start over from scratch. I would like a set of the St.Marie sights but I could put together a couple of other projects for the price of them. Jeff

I would do some serious checking on the stock it the gun were mine.  I am only changing my sights 5 clicks windage from Swiss issue to 18 gr. cast.  Thats like 10 thousands?  It sounds to me like either the sights have slipped or the stock is warped and putting a lot of pressure on the barrrel.  Also check your crown and the muzzle bore.  If there is wear or damage there it will throw you off.

Clicks? Where are ya finding clicks?
I have been over this thing with a fine tooth comb, nothing..........
It does not appear to be doing it until I get to 150M, then it is not bad. Go another 50M and it is moving 18-24".
Now to top the day off. Got to the range got everything out, or tried to. Went and left the goll dang K-31 on the bench, grabbed the wrong rifle case.
Maybe I can sneak off SUnday afternoon.

Jeff:

I think he's talking about the clamp-on target sights, not the issue sights.

I have found, with 6 K31's, the difference between "GP-11 equivalent" handloads and "light" loads is about 4 MOA in no-wind zero at 200 yards, and it's pretty consistent between rifles.  I just make the change and deal with it.  It does not matter if the "light" loads are 150 gr FMJBT at 2000 fps, or 180 grain cast at 1700-1800.  After 200 yards, I'm shooting 168 or 190 gr SMK's at full speed.

Like Jim says, you could check to see if your stock is warped more than usual (All K31 stocks I have examined are warped to some degree, just some are worse than others.).

Resp'y,

Bob S.

Sorry, I am using St. Marie target peeps.  For issue sights I use a sight adjuster and I rarely have to move the sight more than 1 1/10 of an inch in the dovetail slot.  You might try loosening the front and middle bbl bands and shooting it that way to see if it is stock pressure causing your drift.  I have my contact point at the forestock reamed for fee float and that gives me a little advantage.

Well I will have to look my stock over again. I may open it up some up front and on the hand guard. The thing shot really well to begin with, then started doing the windage crap and just kept getting worse, then finally settled in where it is now.
I myself rate the K-31 right up there with the '03. If only they had put the windage on the rear sight, WHERE IT BELONGS. Would make life a lot easier for people like me.
Thanks fellas, much appreciated again.

Jeff,

Have you tried using a "spacer" between the flanges of both barrel bands?  So the barrel is essentially "free floated."

That's the advice from "Pierre St. Marie" on, I think, the Swiss Forum.

Good luck!

I have found that the K31 shoots dead on with jacketed bullets but with cast it shoot to the right. I have not found a solution to this yet but to shoot jacketed bullets in my k31 and save the cast for my Mosin Nagants, and SKS.  Or adjust the windage.  Has anyone else had this problem?
