Please don't ask the obvious question, "Do they shoot?"   Some of them do, obviously.

Some of those presentation-cased cap and ball sets include a fitted bullet mold in the set along with a little tin of  percussion caps.  Some of the others have little boxes of ammo with them. 

Now, if you were spending 60 years doing this as a hobby, don't you think you would want to eventually see your cute little tommy gun shoot out a whole bunch of little sparrow killer sized bullets? 

If they were true to 1/3 scale they would be .150" diameter and would likely do the job on a sparrow if you sprayed him properly.

Certainly there is nothing to stop the little flintlocks from working correctly.  A tiny precussion cap could be made from fulminate of mercury just like the originals were made (or from a cap gun cap just like the "end of the world" precussion caps that the survivalists make for their own use).
