Hey to the wise and thoughtful master of casting....?Just got back from the range with the ol' NEF 45/70. Unfortunately my dies, and supplies hasn't arrived yet from Midway, so I was out shooting some PMC Factory 405grn loads that are supposed to duplicate the BP loadings for the ol' Govt. round. And I might just say - they are some darn dirty smokeless loads with a seriously hard alloy bullet! Easy shooting though...On to the main question.....I have a heavy trigger pull, sometimes a weak hammer fall resulting in a click instead of a boom. This is a brand spankin' new rifle to me - had a couple of boxes of factory shells through it before I inherited it - basicaly in it's short life..... it isn't even broke in yet. That said.....is there a master trigger guru for the NEF out there that can help me in working with this trigger to make it a more manageable 3.5 lb or less pull, instead of a 6lb or better? Any help would be appreciated -I haven't broke this gun down to nuts and bolts yet - that is tomorrow's project. I expect I can solve the soft hammer fall - grease, gunk, dust etc. slowing the hammer on it's decent to the firing pin. I am not worried about that - My main concern is the trigger pull itself.ThanksERic

Eric,

From what I understand if you send the action back to NEF they will do a trigger job at no charge.  I suspect that so few people send them back that it's cheaper to send them out without the extra steps than it is to send them out right in the first place.

If  you are ever in the Albany, Oregon area there is a gunsmith that understands NEF's and has done several

for me.  Try Jeff Hutchins at Rangemaster Gunworks (541-928-5054).  He does good, and SAFE trigger work.

Tell him I sent you and you'll have the pleasure of being thrown out on your butt.  To keep him happy, stop at

the store next door first and get him a large Coke and a couple burritos and he'll be mellow.

Rich, you are right about good gunsmiths. They need to be handled more carefully than a woman. They are more rare.
