Hi all, I picked up a Rem P-14 action in a bag the other day. I got it all put together and the fireing pin looks like it has a small chip out of it and it doesn't extend past the bolt face very far. How would be the best way to fix this? braze a drop of brass onto the tip, then reshape? My thought here is to make a 470NE and do some pressure testing with it.

1.  Measure length to the tip from some reference point to get the length now . . .

Well test it on a case with only a primer in it forst . . . does it even need to be repaired

2. if ,. . . IF the firing test failed, chuck that puppy in a lathe, cut it back and fit a piece of drill rod to press fit or silver solder in place. I suggest the silver solder route

3. turn to shape and length.

4. polish

shoot away

Method Two

Buy one

First one is the only thing I have personally seen done.

I know you enough by now, to realize that  Method Two is not likely your in your plan

Oh come on now,  I don't do everything the hard way.  It's just more fun to do #1.

Hey I make those little metal do-dads that go in the forearm on a TC.

I know all about satisfaction of "doing it myself".

That is why I own all the woodworking tools and metal lathe.

Now if I just had a milling machine . . . . .

Maybe that is why my favorite rifle is still my 6.5x257 on a Type 38 complete with Herters stock even though I have others to choose from.
