Any thoughts on this kind of piece? What kind of boolit it might be intended for? Deeeep grooves for sure and count is seven just like in that wooden rifle I made the other day. It sure looks weird. Must be some kind of camel rider saddle carbine hehe. It's said to be Afghan.

.........I've seen old (old like 1500's type old) barrels with grooves like that and ther was no spiral. Prolly just crud grooves for the fouling. A guy I worked with brought in an el cheapo 22RF import revolver whose barrel was rifled like that. It was one of those revolvers with zink frames anc cylinder that were cast around steel liners. It DID have a spiral. I had a hard time believeing what I was seeing. He said it shot like crap, and I agreed that it looked like it would.

Oh yeah, somebody wants it because it's going near 200 euros at local online auction, 10 bidders so far and 10 days left. Might make interesting wall hanger for someone but not for me. Anyway seller replied that there is twist in the rifling.

The rifle is of Arabic origin and they were made in this style till at least 1970.  My brother in law saw them being made when he was stationed over there.  A friend of mine collected odd stuff and had two of these and I was told that the stock was shaped to help hold the gun steady under your arm as you rode a camel.  Having never ridden a camel I can't say for sure.  I have shot one of these and it was with great trepidation and very little powder.  The parts were rather indifferently hardened and the barrel from the bottom looked to be lap welded and bored.  In addition the muzzle was funneled and what looked like deep rifling was filed grooving that led down to normal 10-15 thous. rifling.

The rifle is called a Jezail (several spellings)  Used from Turkey to India in various forms.  There are several photo's in Tanner's GUNS OF THE WORLD.
