Hey Folks! This is my first posting to this forum. I have an Armee Jaeger Zouave that I picked up in the early 70's. I believe I got it from EMF. I loaned the rifle to a friend to take hunting and got it back with a stripped and boogered up nipple seat. I need some suggestions on repairing the damage. Not sure if this rfle has a forged bolster or if it is removable. Haven't tried to remove the breech plug yet either. Anyone with any ideas?? Thanks, Mountaineer

Mountaineer2199, That is a pretty easy fix. Chase the threads,up through inserting a heli coil. Where are you located? WV by that handle  There are some smiths I can recomend east of the Mississippi.

Couple of pics of Zouave barrels out of my junk pile The one with the plug removed is how the orgionals were. Other type is a "Pattent breech" Most of those were brazed on.Some of the cheeper Italian and Spainish zouaves were done that way. Some have been known to come apart. They ar not allowed in N-SSA comp.Arrow points to joint. Wrench is a Yeck tool.Use a 3/4 "cheeter pipe and even the most snug orgional breech plug will give up. Dixie has a S shaped wrench that works well I hear.

Hi Shooter,

Thanks for the reply! Yes, I'm a West -By God- Virginian! I'll give the fix you recommended a try. I'm pretty sure this rifle is a fairly cheap knock-off and quality is no where near Pedersoli. I didn't pay much for it 30 years ago, but it was a decent shooter and I'd like to have it functional again. I usually do my on smithing, just hadn't come up against this one before and didn't want to re-invent the wheel!!

Thanks again,

Mountaineer

..................Hello Mountaineer! Welcome to the board. Jim, my el cheapo Zouave has the patent type breechplug but it's threaded in. It was made, or imported by CIE (I don't think that's right, going from memory here) but I recognize the name and haven't seen it around for years. Even though it was a bottom of the barrel unit compared to many other Zouaves, danged if it doesn't shoot very well!

Buckshot, Does your breech plug thread into the pattent breech? Or is the barrel threaded to the patten breech with out a removable ie seprate breech plug? Back in the the 60's sooo many configureions  were made in Italy or Spain. As long as it shoots well...

.................The whole entire breech is one piece which threads into the barrel. No seperate tang.
