That all sounds real good to me, Bruce.
It almost seems that the fool who built the residence downrange at the firing site prompted positive outcomes all around.

Bruce, this is off topic but somewhat importent to me. Excuse me for asking this way but I seem to remember your email is usually unreliable and you hadn't figured out Personal Messages yet. It has been six and a half months since I applied for my CCW. Law says it must be awarded or denied in 120 days. Naturally there is no legal reason to disqualify me. Sheriff's Office called me in sometime in July to re-do fingerprints. Since then, no word. It would not be politically expedient to imply that Sheriffs are incompetent but I think there's a good chance "someone" lost my paperwork. Do you have any idea whom I might write or call to get the ball rolling again? With Brady Bill charges up to $25 now, it's costing me money. Thanks.

Scrounger, Why don't you walk into the sheriffs office and ask to speak to the sheriff?
Perhaps this is something that he is unaware of.
If he does not jump on your case, then a letter to to the state attorney general, and then the state goverenal.
Be sure to name names every step down the line.
Remember every state employee works for you.

....................Scrounger, your CCW should be something issued to every child at birth to be excercised upon their majority unless they prove otherwise unworthy of the trust. This is not a priviledge you are working toward but a right, so far as I see it. It is like an FFL. It is a "Shall Issue" situation, and you SHOULD look into what is going on. Don't be an ass, but don't go tippy toeing into the sheriff's office either. You paid your fee and signed on the dotted line.

The May date sounds great to us (lori B and I). As usual hope it isn't the first weekend of the month as that is our monthly SASS shoot in Fernly and would hate to make a choice of which one to attend. So hope that it isn't the first weekend. Beside the later in the month the better chance to get weather like last year, which was great.
TimB
p.s. If you need any of the beeswax Bob Williams comes to our monthly shoots and we could pickup any you want. Hope to see you next month at the Hilton Show.

How do, y'all?
As of right now, I'm hoping and intending to attend the Show on Saturday the 13th. I'm scheduled to work night shift on Sunday (1800 hrs), so that pretty-well wipes out that day. Sure would be nice to get together, and maybe have lunch at one of the Hilton's good spots.
I'll see how things look as the time draws closer.

You guys are making me envious as hell. In 7 months and 3 days I will be in a position to travel at leisure to the United States from the People's Republic to see actual gun shows, just like they used to have here, before the Red Diaper Doper Babies that now infest Sacramento came to power.
I'll be there in spirit, for damn sure.

I mistakenly posted the 2005 Shoot dates on a 2004 thread.
The 2005 Shoot will be held on May 6-7-8, and i hope loads of folks will attend.
I posted a bit more about it on the 2004 thread yesterday on the Competition forum. Please answer ONLY on this thread to avoid confusion, and NOT on the 2004 thread [that's all I need, going out of my way to CREATE confusion, when the naturally-occurring variety jes' loves to seek me out without any help at all!]

Well...apparently my eager touch to relocate Bruces Post to this thread has failed,,,so a copy & paste,,Let's hear it again for Bruce B and the NCBS 2005 schedule !
Folks;
The Mountain hath labored and brought forth my work schedule for 2005, and thus I can announce the following:
HEAR YE, HEAR YE!
The SIXTH Annual Nevada Cast Bullet Shoot will take place on May 6, 7, and 8, 2005. Anyone who shoots cast bullets in any way, shape or form is welcome to attend, and based on past editions of the Event, you WILL have a good time [or else....the Good Time Polizei will be called in!] If need be, just bring yourself, and guns and ammo will be in GREAT plenty for your enjoyment.
I don't know what the status of the range will be, as far as longer-range shooting goes, but we'll do just fine, regardless. I'm lookin' forward to it already!
The condensed, no-BS, rockbottom "ROOLS" are these:
-Act safely
-Have fun
-NO WHINING!!!
Rools Kommittee (everyone who attends is a member) meets on Friday for dinner and conversation-lubricants. Shooting is on both Saturday and Sunday, with a BBQ at my place on Saturday evening (for the last two years, anyway) and a closing dinner downtown on Sunday night at a fine Basque-style restaurant.
It's truly a grand time, and please attend if at all possible.
Regards from BruceB in Nevada.
I am seconding the grand time and please attend if possible ! You are in for some great company and excellent shooting times.
I think a Balloon shoot would entertain a few troops,,Bruce can you check availability of a tank of helium?

Thanks for the scheduling information, Bruce. Now that the dates for the most important event of the year are fixed, I can work lesser (that means ALL) plans in around NCBS 2005. Looking forward, Bill

Hello all!
Yes it is that time of year again. My apologies to all for not staying in contact with yall better. I am still alive and I will be in Winnemucca for the festivities. Now I just need to find time to get casting and loading. I am sad to report however that the yellow peril will not be in attendance this year, or ever again. For those not in the know, I am speaking of my beloved mustard yellow 1973 jeep wagoneer. She had her last hurrah this January's cow elk hunt.
After chaining up all 4 and slugging through 40+ miles of dragging bottom snow for the first 4 days of hunting, a pair of graders came through and plowed the pass into the hunting area (Hamlin Valley/Atlanta) from Pony Springs, 35 miles north of Pioche NV. This provided me and a party of hunters well met on the trail with a plowed and extremely slippery road, and while I was following and rubbernecking for elk someone in the truck ahead of me yelled "STOP I see something". Needless to say I wasn't in a position to hear the announcement or stop. I was only doing about 10 mph when I rearended my newfound friend but it was enough to shove the radiator into the fan. So there I was 100 miles from Ely and 70 miles from Pioche with antifreeze running out on the ground like from a faucet. I loaded guns and optics into the other truck and we kept hunting, filling the other's cow tag in the afternoon. They took me back to my travel trailer and the next morning to Ely where after checking into the Hotel Nevada I went out and bought a 2000 Durango SLT fully loaded, leather and all. Actually I needed a datemobile anyway. Just no impressing women with a 73 wagoneer.
I had me a fine prime rib dinner and went to bed. I arose at 4:30 am and headed out to get the gas cans, propane tanks and tools that I had to leave behind at the scene of the wreck. I stopped at the trailer to get some burlap and tarps to protect the fine corinthian leather and headed for the wagoneer. About 5 miles short of reaching old yeller I glanced at the side of a hill and lo and behold there stands 5 or 6 cow elk pretty as you please. So I got out and shot one. I then donned snowshoes (did I mention that it had been snowing every damned day since I got there!) and after skinning and quartering loaded her into the Durango. I have since come to the conclusion that this may very well be the luckiest truck I have ever owned (since women and children read these posts I won't detail other events that led to this conclusion). If not the luckiest, surely it may be the only Durango SLT in existance that has had chains on all 4 wheels and a dead elk in the back!
So I have 2 elk in the freezer (Daniel was successful in Oct.) and a new ride to cruize into Winnemucca with.
And yesterday a brand new model 25 s&w with a 4" bbl in 45 colt followed me home. Enough about me......HOW Y'ALL BEEN!!!!
ammohead
ps y'all will have to come to Winnemucca to hear the story of rescueing old yeller from the wilderness.

Bruce, Most excellent to hear from you. Reading between the lines I gather that your new ride has fulfilled the two roles mentioned once by Jack O'Connor. Jack said that modern 4WD vehicles can go hunting "and carry some luscious doxie to the movies." May ALL your hunting continue to result in 100% success ratios. Looking forward to seeing you in Winnemucca. Bill

So tell me if the Durango fully leather equipped yuppie mobile is going to be seen pulling the Winged Avenger, or is an AirStream in the offing?

This has to be an imposter. The REAL Ammohead told us that only a phewl would spend more than a couple large on any car/truck/bus; doing otherwise was playing Detroit-Tokyo's game. He told us this on many occassions, sometimes only minutes apart. Nah, the real Ammohead woulda stuck to his guns.
Welcome back. Can we expect to see more of you?

Deputy Al and I are gonna do Cedarville again this year. In the interest of saving money due to current fuel prices, instead of taking his 3/4 ton Ford P/U, or my 'Old Guys' Taurus, we shall most likely be stylin' in a VW Jetta convertible. At least I hope it's not a '64 Beetle. If it is I'll have to bring a brick for the gas pedal as a crusie control. If it is the drop top, may have to wear my loafers with tassels and pink Izod Lacosst polo shirt and Ray Bans. Still thinking about the foulard at this point.

Rick, A Jetta convertible? You can't even carry your ammunition in that mini-ride, let alone the twenty rifles apiece you always bring on this expedition. I think I'm getting an idea of the nefarious planning behind this "drop top" ride thing. I can see it now:
Buckshot and Deputy Al, strafing the local coyotie population as they're Jettaing across the Vast Nevada Desert. I'll bet they even have a back road or two in mind so as not to draw unwanted attention to themselves (even a back road wont work with that Pink Izod and Ray Ban outfit)!
Probably intend to plead "Nolo Galena" when they arrive!

Just don't get stranded in the Sheldon wearing tassle loafers and a pink anything if you want one of the local buckaroos to lend a hand.
A Californian moves to NV to try his hand at gentleman ranching and meets his neighbor a long time resident mending fence out in the middle of nowhere and introduces himself. "A newcomer eh!" says the desert rat "I'm havin a little party at my place later you should show up". "What kind of party?" says the left coaster. "Oh you know, a little drinking, a little fightin, a little f%*#&n" "Ok what should I wear?" "Don't matter, only gonna be you and me!"
You would have to mention Cedarville. I just turned in my request for the monday following the shoot to have off. I have been wondering if squirrels were on the menu this year. Now I just may have to ask for Thur and Fri off too. Not sure if I can pull that one off. My prince of a boss requires 2 months notice for vacation and knowing that it will be for something fun that I really want almost guarantees a rejection. I'll see what I can do. Wouldn't want you two crossing the Sheldon unescorted and all. That's a loooooong walk from anywhere.
I bought a Savage varmint rig as I left Winnemucca last year. A 223 with accutrigger. Really drives tacks with heavy condoms but don't like the lite bullets normally associated with varmint hunting. 69 grainers are the bill of fare. Then there is the 24" model 99 in 250 savage that just loves 75 gr hollow points. You sure know how to tempt a guy. I have been working in Susanville off and on, at the prison, and a hospital putting in ac controls. Looking out across the fields had me think of youse guys and whether you were doing Cedarville this year. Damn that job thing.
