Shot the Cast Bullet sil. match this weekend.
Friday was a warm-up match 20 shots, 5 at each animal. 200M, 300M, 385M, 500M.
I shot a 14X20 with my No.3 Ruger 34-40 Krag. Rams were still elusive.
Saturday was the 60 shot match, I donged 4 rams and 1 pig (never before) still shot 32X60
winner in my class (production) was 34X60 not sure what he was shooting.
w30wcf AKA John Kort runs the match as he has done for 20 years, well done I might add.
He always supplies lunch, Goober peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.

45-70bpcr was there also using a K31 with a scope, scope wouldn't hold a zero, almost impossible
to hold off when you're not sure where it will hit.

I brought a new gun a No.1 Ruger in 32-40 1-14, douglas barrel set up for breach seating.
used the 170 rcbs mold to the Turkeys, and 323471 to the rams. should have used the 323417 at the
Turkeys, the 170 just wouldn't group, althought the person shooting was a new to High Power cast bullet shooting, he normally shoots BPCR with me, and is a Master class shooter.
The load for the rams wasn]'t hot enough, donged 4 rams, really good hits, rocked back and forth, well you get the picture, whoch I forgot to take getting caught up in the match.

Hopefully w30wcf will fill in the equipment stuff.

Loads
30-40
14.5gr unique, 180-sp rcbs .311, No.2 Q, 22bhn
used to the Turkeys if not too windy
32.5gr Varget, 314299 .311, ww/lino Q, 27-29bhn 1850 chrono.
Rams only
27gr RX7, 180-sp rcbs, No.2 Q, 22bhn
Turkey load for windy
LBT blue
32-40
23gr RX7, 170-fp rcbs .323, ww/lino Q, 27-29bhn
23gr RX7, 323471 .323, ww/lino Q, 27-29bhn
Alox 50/50

Hi,

I'm interested in this game. But w/ revolvers. What seems to be the most successful cast bullet out of a .357 w/ a 6 & 1/2 to 8 & 1/2 in. barrel ? What is the best cast bullet in a .44 w/ a 7 &1/2 in. barrel.

Hi,

How would a 7mm/o6 or a 7mm Mag. with a 168gr, GC bullet fair at this game. I usually just cast wheel wts. and keep my vel. around 1200ft./sec. Would I need to produce lynotype bullets and punch up the velocity. Any suggestions would be welcome.

Before I started working this weekend night shift, me and 2-3 other cast boolit shooters would meet up and shoot our club's so called 'Cowboy' silhuette match. It was no different then the other but was limited to iron sighted rifles with cast lead so they hung that 'Cowboy' title on it.

Anyway it was a gas and I sure enjoyed it. It was all for fun and bragging rights. It was a 200 yard course. Chickens at 50, pigs at 100, turkeys at 175 ans rams at 200. The rifles and loads I mostly used would ALL take the ram off the stand unless it was hard set due to wind.

1893 Marlin 30-30:

1908 Braz Mauser 7x57:

MkIV Martini 577-540:

38.0 IMR3031 + Dacron. Lee 458-405F, 392gr @ 1250 fps

One time I wasn't going to be able to go for some reason, and then things changed and I could go. The only ammo I had loaded up was a couple different loads I'd been working on for a new Pedersoli Creedmore Rolling block in 45-70. The bulk of the ammo I had sight dope on but not enough to complete 40 rounds. The balance was some left over experimental stuff. This was about 10 years ago or so.

The experimental ammo was some Lee 458-450F's loaded to 1600 fps. Not what a person would load for a silhuette match, but that's what I had! Since I didn't have sight settings for this stuff I figured using it at the 50 and 100 targets, with my sight info for the other ammo would work since the targets were closer.

Lemme tell ya! A hit on the chicken purely lifted them off the rail with a resounding CLANG! and they'd slide backwards through the dirt several feet and just lay there and ring like a tuning fork.

I had to use 3 rounds on the 100 meter pigs before getting to my real silhuette ammo. They'd go over with a clang and a KA-WHUMP! The last one I hit, hit in such a way as to have the animal spiral up in the air maybe 3' flipping over and over before hitting the ground . It just stuck there on it's back with it's feet in the air for several seconds and then fell over.

It really surprised me that right in the middle of the match the guy calling the line said over the loudspeaker, "Okay Rick, there'll be no trick shooting during the match!". Not that this was a big regional or national shoot or anything, but everyone stopped shooting and looked around to see what was going on.
