Hello!
I've lurked here for a week or so but this is my first post. Great forum you guys have here! I've decided I'm going to go ahead and shoot this match. I hope you don't mind a newbie horning in on your event.
I have a few questions, though: What shooting position(s) is/are allowed? Benchrest or standing/sitting/kneeling/prone?

Well, I've not had all that much time for shooting this summer, but gave it a go this week. the loads i had for the .358 Win, that had been shooting 1 1/2" groups, was spreading them around 4+ inches. Hmmm. Cleaned the barrel well, and things didn't improve much. Tried another tested load. 4" again. Hmmmm! Went back to Wc852(F), original good load, and dropped charge by three grains. Chronographed darn near what the heavier load did. Group a little better, but not good enough for a match, although acceptable for hunting accuracy. I'm going to check the action screws. Hopefully, that may be an easy fix.
Has anyone noticed temperature sensetivity with WC852(F) in the past? The original loads were worked up at 30 degrees, and it is around 70 today.

A funny thing happened at the range today. I had a nice iron sight group going until there was a momentary lull in the Washoe Zephyr. Yep, the seventh shot went right down the middle. The other nine were blown 3" left into a less than two inch group. Sometimes the weather can be too good! curmudgeon

Did you shoot the newly aquired Full Military Springfield 1903 MK1 yesterday . I am expecting to hear that group was shot with your NRA Springfield. Great shooting Let me hear that you did try out the MK1.
I have 2 out of the 4 stocks refinished. I will probably do mine next week , then yours shorly after that. I am going to check with a real real proffessoinal finisher before I do yours.
talk to you soon, cobbmtmac

Mac, Besides shooting the almost good ten-shot group wiht the NRA Sporter, Idid try out the MK I. Iused a "control" load of 46 gr. IMR 4895 and Remington 165gr. Core-Lokt. Had a little trouble getting the sights dialed in but finally managed a 3" group in the black. One more trip to the range with jacketed, then it's time for real boolits. The MK I has a well metal fouled bore, but I am getting a lot of it out. The barrel is good and shiny, with slightly rounded lands, I expect it will shoot. Regards, curmudgeon

Well,I recieved the first 2 entries in todays' mail.
Waksupi and 4060May have both submitted targets for review and applause.
I will attempt to draft krag35 as a scoring partner and <we> will score all of the targets on Nov 1 and post the results then. I won't spill the beans yet,but there is a couple fine looking groups there !
Keep'em coming !

Bah, humbug!
I am (was?) DETERMINED to finally get an entry into one of these here postal matches. "As many groups as you want, and send the best 'un!" sez 45nut. Hmmm....seems like a primo opportunity and reason for a bunch of experimental '06 loads that I've been meaning to get after, so I stuffed fifteen different combinations, ten rounds each, with two boolit designs (311467 and 311284) into some '06 brass over the weekend, knowing that I'm off work until next Friday and will have time to shoot them.
...And, what happens? Just the next major storm of the winter rolling in! I hear the wind howling as I write this, and the forecast is the pits until Friday! Sometimes I feel like Joe Btzflsk (sp) from Li'l Abner...remember him, walking around with his personal little storm cloud right over his head all the time?
I might have to use PLASTIC targets to shoot this match, but by gum I am gonna try to get it done. At least I can stay more-or-less dry while doing it, shooting from Der 'wagen.
I just checked the Lyman handbook for the ballistic co-efficients and wind effect on some of these loads at 100, and it isn't very encouraging. No, I'm not looking for excuses already, already!

BruceB, You'll never believe this, but the gentle Washoe Zephyr relented enough yesterday morning for me to shoot not too hopeless groups with both iron and scope sighted rifles. Immediatley after shooting those two groups, weather returned to normal. Having all-but given up being able to enter the postal match, I must remember to thank Odin for the reprieve. curmudgeon

..........I shot my 50 and 100 yard targets (ironsight) for the match. EIght rounds in the 10 ring at 50 yards and one at 3 in the 8 ring and one at 12 in the nine ring will teach me to shoot unscaled slugs in serious competiion. The 100 yard isn't terrible, but It's not way shiney either.

Are the October "Match" results available? I`m curious as to how far down the Open Sight category I fell to with the 03-A3.

OK,Here goes. Iron sight results here with a Scoped post to follow.
No last minute arrivals to cut in front of our Iron Sight winner although there was nearly a tie !
Krag 35 scoring and PB Head was the Overall winner with a group of 1.553" Shooting a 03-A3,Lyman 48 peep sight-Redfield Globe front combo with a recipe of a WW RCBS 180gr over 24grs WC680,Win LRP. 50/50 Alox lube sized to .310
Close on PB Head's heels with a 1.579" offering was 40-60 May. Also shooting a WW RCBS 180gr but in the 30-40 cartridge in a custom barreled Martini. 21grs of RL 7 LBT Blue lube sized to .311 was a very nice group indeed.
Curmudgeon was next and a very respectable 1.61 garnered my eyes attention quickly. More of the 30-06 here,a Springfield NRA sporter with a Lyman 48 rear/issue front sight directing a Lyman 314299 (200gr) over 16grs 2400 sized to .310 and a javelina lube applied.
Waksupi was right close folks with a 1.774" group but gathering the Highly Respected 45 caliber honors Shooting a Pedersoli Sharps 45-70 and a nice heavy 560gr Postell design lubed with FWFL and a LDPE wad tucked under the base covering 1 5gr 4227,36gr WC 860 combo. A Parts Unknown Tang sight with a Shavers spirit level front sure must have helped. As well as a healthy dose of skill.
We had an entry from 308 Win that drew in boolits to a fine 2.142 again with the 03-A3,Willims Fp peep, blade front Fajen stocked rifle delivering a Lyman 311467 over 30grs IMR 4895 Alox 50/50 Lubed .310 sized boolit.
Calamity Jakes offering of 2.422 was another 03-A3 target. Rifle as issued by the Remington factory delivered a RCBS 150gr sized to .310 propelled by 18grs of 2400 lubed with FWFL quite well indeed.
And Bullshop sent in a finely perforated paper plate (my favorite target   measuring 3.547 with a Rolling Block 38-55 with a Parts Unknown Rear/Browning front sight combo delivering a NEI 320gr sized to .380 driven by a load of 3.1cc's of Pyrodex RS with a .5cc kicker of IMR 4759 with a stryo over powder wad.
Congrats to all the entries and for those that shoulda, woulda, coulda,,,,well, there's always next time !
