We are going to need a BIG, no, a GIGANTIC communications campaign to further our goal of any type of Cold War Medal to become a reality no matter what happens in the joint House/Senate Conference Committee; and we need the the support of the members of the Veteran Service Organizations (VSOs) in this campaign. If the medal provision does not survive the work of the committee, then the two stand alone bills in the Senate and House will still be on the books for further consideration for one more year and will not sunset untilJanuary 2013; we will need both co-sponsors to make an effort to add a medal provision in the FY 2013 NDAA for both House and Senate.......which will be harder to do for 2013, because of the looming defense budget cuts due to sequestion. If the medal provision is in the final FY 2012 NDAA, then any communication campaign must be directed to the Department of Defense and President Obama to follow the will of Congress to take positive action to design and issue a medal in 2012 and broaden eligibility to veterans of our Reserve Components (which includes the Guard). I do not have more faith in our current SECDEF than former Secretary Gates. I hope I am wrong! It was a major disappointment not to get the required 5,000 sign ups for the petition for a medal to the White House this past fall. We will need ten times more if not many more doucmented advocates to communicate the need for a Cold War Medal. We will need the leadership of the VSOs to push their members to flood the powers to be to make a Cold War Medal a reality. We need the VSOs to push it in their VSO magazines or send letters to their membership to communicate to them this important issue ; convention resolutions are not good enough. We need publicity in the major newpapers, magazines, talk shows, militaty times newspapers, etc A medal is not just something to put on our tight fitting uniforms or ciivlian clothes for special occasions or hang on our wall in frames with other military medals.........it is nothing to brag about or a starting point for stories, which is not bad, but it is a reminder that the Cold War was a major part of our country's history if not the free world and we and the generations after us should never forget it. People made sacrifices in their lives and with their lives to keep our freedoms or seek freedom. Millions of people died because of Communism. This is the most important thing that the medal represents, and not VSO eligibility, veteran benefits, or other minor issues. December, 2011 is the 20th Anniversary of the end of the Cold War. October 2013 is the 50th Anniversay of the Cuban Missle Crisis.......now is the best time for an official government and military recognized a Cold War Medal or else it will never happen!!!!!!!I have stated my piece of mind on this issue and probably not will not come on this site again unless the medal becomes a reality. This topic was started by me and I did not intend to sign in as a "guest." I typed it in a more clearer format that was shown but it came out as one long paragraph....sorry. Please read it carefully, I recommend an action no matter what will be decided by the joint conference committee soon on the Cold War Medal.
Aloha, Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year to all.

I think the cold war medal was included in the final version of the bill, check the us senate website which has the public print of the bill

You have to check the conference committee report of the NDAA.

Link is to the PDF of the final report (or agreement). You will see under Cold War Service Medal that the House had no such provision and the Senate recedes. Meaning it does not appose its being struck. I think that's how you would say that.
