Update.
The Bill by Al Baldasaro failed due to the fact lawmakers could not agree. But the Bill was an attempt to separate the Cannon Mountain Ski areas from the footprint that is the Memorial. Similar to what is happening around the country with real estate that is valuable like in the case of the Los Angeles VA's 390 acres.
In this case the memorial is actually the Park itself, not what they want you to believe that it is certain stones near the lake called Profile, etc... The memorial is the entire Park. The official name is called the Franconia Notch Forest Reservation and Memorial Park. The Cannon Mountain Ski areas are within the park. The name of the Park has been shortened dropping the memorial from the name as you can see on signage and on the websites. The political environment in the area has been on the move to reduce the Park being affiliated with war, to their own loss now the Park is endangered. Veterans have to pay to use the ski area and the park which is contradictory to the dedication in 1928. This is a breach of contract and separating Cannon from the park would be theft just like in the LA VA case.
Now that Cannon ski area is in the black and doing well, it should rise to meet the 1928 promise to its Warriors. A percentage should stream back into helping veterans in NH and its veterans community. The theft of these pieces of the Park and spin to reduce the Memorial must be stopped. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!
