Reports from Sen. Snowe and Congreewoman Pingree say that the medal was not in the final version of the NDAA.
No explanation yet what happened.

What is odd about that is keeping it in the final version would not have cost any money as the Defense Secretary would have just ignored the cold war medal legislation as it said "may" not "will".

I still say, "Good job!" to all who worked so hard to make the CWSM a reality. On a different note, have we ever been given an official answer from anyone as to why the CWSM keeps getting denied? The only thing I am aware of is: There are already plenty of medals in the system to deal with events during the CW period. What say ye?
I guess it appears to be so, no CWSM in the final version. We may never know for certain who or why this provision was removed. I feel that there was some back room dealings going on to keep this provision from going to a vote. I agree with the above guest that even if it did pass in the House, and both bills were included in the final provision of the NDAA, the DoD could always have the final say in this matter because they "may" issue a CWSM, as we are aware of. I do not know of what these "plenty of other medals" are as mentioned by the above guest. There are plenty of men who are not even entitled to a Good Conduct Medal let alone some campaign ribbon or citation who served overseas in some far-flung danger areas. This CWSM was unique to us. If we ever get future legislation on this medal, perhaps we can think of wording the legislation whereby eligible recipients would pay for the medal themselves. I know this has been discussed in the past. I know that this would be a raw deal. But it would be one argument that the DoD could NOT use against us. I am not giving up on this recognition. Too many men like Frank Tims, Jerry Terwilliger, Scot, Kyen, and many others who went above and beyond on this CWSM campaign. We sincerely thank you for everything you have done. There will come a day when the DoD will lose their battle against us. We will win. Just my thoughts.
Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays to all members, as well many thanks to Jerry,Frank,Paul, Sean,Rodevto,Jim,Kyen, Hawk, Scott, J Peters Wow how I could go on and on : )
To quote a young man lost in NY at Christmas LOL { looks like another year in the trench } & the one I love most this year was a members remark that the most important reasons to award this medal is historic as it covers those hero's that gave all for freedom as well those who stood ready to do so.
My best wishes to all for the coming year & BTW we as a group turn four, Hun? well that went fast as well we did gain much more ground as we keep chipping at the second wall, that too shall fall !
In time ever forward folks : )

I may be a little paranoid, but I am starting to wonder if one of the reasons this CWSM is constantly being shot down is because it could be "diplomaticaly incorrect." By that, I mean it could be seen by the Russian Federation as pouring salt on a wound? Putin and his ilk have not ever really stopped being "cold warriors." Is it possible that elements of our congress and the POTUS are afraid of "insulting" the Russians?
Just very general comment here.....but there is a repeated pattern developed here, i.e. stand alone bills in both houses that don't make the floor for vote....provisions in annual NDAA's shot down in 11th hour....All this out of the same committee, Armed Services. I think if we're to be eventually successful in this, we need to know who on the committee opposes....and why. I mean if we knew who continues to put the kibosh to it, then we could ask "what reason(s) do you oppose this for?" Is it money, is it you don't think Cold War was a war, extended benefits, DOD objections??....Not adversarially, just to clearly understand so we might have a clear idea what needs to be countered. I think those on the committee who do oppose, owe us at the very least an explanation as to why. We did serve our country that protected and defended this government committee, and they do work for us too....at least we're the ones that pay the salaries.
I still think positively, one reason being that "Senator Snowe doesn't take "no" for an answer".

It would be easier to find out who sends our hard earned money to our enemies than to find out who opposes the CWSM. The only people who have publicly done so have been the Russians. You would be hard pressed to find a gutless wonder in our Congress to stand on the floor and openly oppose it. Hilary Clinton has been the only person since the dissolution of the USSR to stand up to the Russians when she introduced the CWVM amid strenuos objections of Russian officials. That is why if she had of ran, I would have voted for her, rather than McCain. It seems to me the ladies are sporting more cojones than the so-called men in our Congress.

Without saying too much. You might look at the main page on our website and the first item you see. You might find the center of the opposition is common to those who oppose justice for the Liberty and what industries and congressman that are puppets thereto.

Well, I have always thought about that, but I guess the designer is as politically incorrect as I. That is why I could never be a diplomat or leader, I am too blunt. The stunt that killed me and still does to this day, is our government giving money to Russia to house their soldiers after the dissolution, while we had vets here living on the streets. We have been paying Russia scientists millions of dollars to keep them from working for someone else, while we have unemployed and homeless vets here. Disgusting!

I guess what I'm sayin', and I guess we all pretty well understand and know, looking back at things, if we all didn't go when called, and man the wall, and plug the Fulda Gap. and man those silos, and missile batteries, and those ships and subs that kept 'em at bay, and fly those S.A.C. planes, then we all, including those on the Committee....we'd all be eatin' borscht for supper tonight.
