Welcome PASMAN. New blood welcomed. Can you follow-up your intro and give us a time line on your assignments? It helps put things in a geopolitical perspective. Thank you for your service!

I entered the AF in 1979 (Los Angeles MEPS). Honorable discharge in 1989. The American Legion recognizes me as a Lebanon/Grenada vet. I received my first Commendation Medal while stationed in Germany. It is interesting to note that none of the military organizations think that being decorated on foreign soil (during the Cold War) is a noteworthy act worth admittance/membership to their particular club.

I say, it is interesting to note that former U.S. military members of the armed forces hired in as contractors in various theatres of wars can't join various organizations based on just being in the war zones.

That is right Pasman. The majority of VSO's really have no clue about your service to the ETO during the Cold War Period. Do not forget that the time period that you served in the ETO was not "Germany." It was the Federal Republic of Germany. The eastern part was called the German Democratic Republic. One was Democracy the other was co Communism. Also the two divided Germany's were still under allied control right up through 1990. It took the Final Peace treaty with Germany to become accepted and ratified by the former four allied powers and the two separate Germany's. That is what one of the goals of the organization of the Europe Defense Veterans of America is trying to accomplish. To obtain a Europe Defense Service Medal for deployment to the ETO from 1955 to 1990.
