Well, I did receive my driver's license the other day in the mail with the VETERAN designator on it. Nothing spectacular, nor highlighted or anything like that. I am glad we have this option in Texas. I understand like 20 states are doing this. Right off the bat, I was told by ARS that they offer a veteran discount for airconditioning systems talking to a lady representative in Home Depot the other day. So all ready I can see the benefits of having this designator.
Not to sound displeased or anything, I still do believe a NATIONAL veteran's ID card would be much better. More recognizable. Especially if issued by the Veterans Administration or DOD. I received my voters registration card the other day and in the back, they mention that acceptable forms of ID with photo in Texas would be a drivers' licence, passport, election identification certificate, concealed hand gun license, personal identification card, United States military card with photo, United States citizenship card with photo.
To slap on a veterans designator on driver's license seems a bit generic to me. But, I will take it because I doubt these other veteran ID card bill will pass in the house. Just wish they put the word VETERAN on the license in Red or bigger letters to highlight it better. Or at least VETERAN OF U.S. ARMED FORCES.
Need a stand alone card that read "Veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces". Seal and all.
