E-mail received by ACWV member FRANK ALMQUIST (Illinois resident) Dear Frank:Please accept my sincere apology for the delay in my response to your e-mail in support of the Cold War Victory Medal. I am still working on the challenge of responding efficiently to as many as 2,000 letters, e-mails and calls a day from my Illinois constituents.I agree that the Cold War Victory medal would be an appropriate honor. The Cold War was a period that required both skilled diplomacy and military readine...

Hi, I received a letter from Senator Collins, Maine. There is a new bill S. 1097 Cold War Medal Act. I am not sure where it stands as far as a vote on the bill but the Senator and I have had a few discussions on the matter and she is a avid supporter of the bill. I hope we get some action on this Carl H Smith Falmouth, Maine Aerodad22@aol.com

A fellow Cold War Veteran and friend Steve McCurdy (The Minuteman) and two associates,Valentine Dagher (Crazy Horse) and Ramone Hulett (Cutter) are undertaking a tremendous and honorableproject. They plan to honor Cold War Veterans throughout America, as a way of saying Thank You for YourService to all those who served in the military between Sept. 1945 and Dec. 1991.It is their goal to travel across the U.S. this summer, covering some 15,000 miles in a star-spangled SUV.As they make this incred...

In the President's State of The Union address this evening he stated that he has asked SECDEF Gates to trim DOD's budget by $78 Billion FY 2011. Given that and a general austerity attitude by congress, I personally don't believe DOD will foot the cost of a CWSM, again this year and no politician is going to go out on a limb where cost is a concern.I have been thinking again, but might this suggestion to Jerry, Frank and the ACWV's Board have some merit. Would it be possible through S...

Does anyone (especially Jerry - heh) know the status on Senator Snowe's Cold War Medal bill? Any recent developments? Fully understand that Senator Snowe - whom I hold in high regard - has been quite busy as of late with the Health Care issue (with her being one of the "Gang of 6"), but since that is now out of committee, perhaps they can introduce the Cold War Medal bill that she and her staff had been working on. The 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall is fast approaching. USM...

Hey gang, I'm still thinking about the ADSM, can we toss this around some more? I'm thinking about a letter to President Bush requesting an Executive Order. I now it's a long shot, but we should at least try. American Defense Service MedalBR1) The American Defense Service Medal will be extended to all persons in military service who served on active duty at any time between 2 September 1945 and 26 December 1991, both dates inclusive. Your thoughts, ideas, comments and rants appreciated. Thanks!

How much do you think this will cost?Retroactive Combat Action badges pushedRep. Ginny Brown-Waite, R-Fla., recently introduced legislation to retroactively award the Army Combat Action Badge to those members of the U.S. Army who were engaged by the enemy from Dec. 7, 1941, to the present day. In 2005, the Department of the Army authorized the creation of the Combat Action Badge to recognize U.S. soldiers who engage the enemy in battle. This important badge applies to the brave men and women in ...

$%*'`[Cold War Veteran]%*'`@Do those knowledgeable about such things think that if a Cold War Medal is authorized as a recognition of those veterans that served during that war period were indeed defending their country in a time of war with KIA and thousands of casualtiies...that the NDSM would be awarded retro active and concurrently with the Cold War Medal. Right now those that served on the front lines in Germany, and in SAC, Korea, Central America, Cuba, or those missile sites, or...

I have been told that the NDAA 2012 is being debated on the Senate floor today. It appears that SEC. 581authorizing the Cold War Service Medal will stay in this version. Also, Congressman Israel has decided that instead of the original plan, he will send a letter to all mebersof the House/Senate conference committee to urge them to keep SEC. 581 intact during the conferencedebate. This is even better than the letter he was going to write to promote H.R. 1968, it is felt that a "stand alone"bill w...
