i never heard that russia voluntarily gave up all its agents in the foreign territories after 1991. there wasn't any official investigations of crimes of the communist party and secret service as in romania. old archives still forbidden for study. "hawks" always was the strongest ruling party of russia. from 1999 former kgb officer rules russia, and he was gathering old resources from that time until now. premier-minister putin said that the fall of ussr was the geopolitical catastrophe. his no...

As far as service requirement we did our best we proposed a shorter
term but that was a no go thats why the B and c provision leaves leeway
for exceptions. Best we could do my apologies if it effects you. I myself was 2 days short of 2 years service and was not sure I would qualify. It is a different bill than same old one hopefully it will get through this time . this was a fight and a struggle to get this introduced and without some compromise we might not have ever got another bill. If peop...

Glen,I'm a little unclear on this. Are the candidates saying that (if they are elected President) they will use Executive Order to issue an entirely new CWVM or will they re-issue the American Defense Defense Medal (1939-1941) by extending the period of eligibility to include the Cold War period (1945-1991). I'm OK with either venue, but just want some clarification as to what precisely the candidates are promising.BTW, great job!!USMC_Kinda_Guy

The logo was hammered out quickly, in collaboration with Hector Ed Autry and me. We start with theglobe, since the Cold War was a global struggle. Thefortress wallrepresents the confrontation between the Soviets and the west, tinged with red to represent the blood that was shed in so many places to defend the free world. The wall also represents the iron curtain, DMZ, ffice:smarttags" />?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comBerlinwall, the Morgan line, the Blockage of Sov...

Does everyone know the definition of "Deployed in Place". It is a concept long understood but has a name more used. Deployed in Place is attached to units or specialties that are considered Deployed despite their location or mobility overseas. Deployed in Place units are considered part of the fight and campaign. Those subject to this were removed from traditional deployments due to mission impact, critical nature of the job, time to train specialties, UP Tempo, and retention. Today for ex...

The current way we have this reading for this medal should be changed to "WARTIME DATES and CONFLICTS" veterans, and VFW eligibles whom for which a campaign or expeditionary medal was issued. Active duty for training should count and at least a minimul of 90 days plus the completion of your full tour of duty in an honorable condition (during time of war or conflict). For peace time veterans, at least a minimum of 24 months of active duty plus have an honorable discharge or at lea...

Arnold Schwarzenneger sign a bill that will declare March 30 in perputity as "Welcome HomeVietnam Veterans Day". California will be the first state in the Union to have this every year. This is quite an honor for our friend Dr. Bob, he will be there with some Hollywood stars and assorted bigwigs.Hope he can put in a good word for ACWV. So this is how I read it. In the American Legion, they are more interested in WHEN YOU SERVED, NOT WHERE YOU SERVED.In the VFW, they are interested in WHERE YOU SERVED, not neccissarily WHEN YOU SERVED.If this holds true, these are two distinctions that separates the two organizations, and two different ways of looking at a veteran's worth to the prospective organization. So some of you that are eligible members of both organizations may shed some light...

So you get this medal. What comes with the medal? A certificate? And you get the medal in a little box? So you take it to work and show the guys your cold war medal? What will you do? Show it around? Just keep it in a drawer? Hang it up in an "I love me wall"? Do guys sit around and show their medals around in a club or vfw? Do people look at medals like one would a set of baseball cards? I remember years ago, if you filled up you...

Kudos to Dr. Timms for updating the Legislative Reports section of the website. The updates addressed the new "Cold War Service Medals of 2009" bills - S.2743 and H.R.4051 - that are being considered by the 111th Congress. The updates also list the members of a key target group - members of the House and Senate Armed Services Committees - whose support (through co-sponsorship of these two bills) is critical to CWSM efforts.Again, thanks to Dr. Tims.USMC_Kinda_Guy

I think this subject has been discussed on the forum previously, but I'm putting it out there, again for you consideration and thought.Long story short, AMVETS was originally founded by a group of WWII Veterans who's service was reflected by WWII. AMVETS is a Congressionally Chartered VSO which was born out of WWII, just as the VFW and AL were born out of of WWI. AMVETS was born out of battle just like the the VFW & AL. AMVETS will accept your membership if you have an honorable ...

Alot of civilian groups were granted veteran status during WWII. What happened there? How come Merchant Marines that shipped into Vietnam, Korea, and Persian Gulf don't get the same status as their WWII counterparts? How come it was only during WWII that all these groups got veteran status? No civilian groups performing with the military since has gained veteran status since. You can't say that just because they got blown out of the water more often by the U-Boats, and the...

Congress in the last few days has been busy handing out medals. The Japanese-American members of the 442nd Regimental Combat Team, 100th Infantry Battalion, and membersof the Military Intelligence Service were issued the Congressional Gold Medal. About 14,000 members of the most decorated units of WWII.Many of them were also issued a Bronze Star which they had earned, but paperwork was missed or messed up and it took this long to finally receive the honor that was due to them. Also last week Congr...

I just came across this story on the ABC website. George Stephanopolous will be interviewing President Obama this Sunday. He is currently taking suggestions for questions to ask Obama. I know this is a long shot but I'd like to ask everyone to submit the question about the Cold War Medal. I mentioned the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall and the fact that the President has been quoted as supporting the medal in the past. I then asked if he would sign an executive order au...
