I don't know why  i have over a dozen requests for ppl to join my forum and yet there's something written in red stating NOT TO RESPOND TO THIS on the aimoo system.....what's all this about? Can I BRING THEM IN BY PRESSING approve OR is there something else going on here that I'm unaware of??

Here's a portion of the message:

Malikah would like to join your forum THE BLACK POETRY CAFE,and she said,"Leave a message to tell the forum owner why you would like to join"
>>Click here to approve/decline or check whether Malikah is approved by the forum administrator.
>>Send message to Malikah

Note: Do not reply to this message from Aimoo system.

Hi Mark,

Aimoo has done that to avoid forums being spammed. They don't want to be closed down again because Owners allow members to join automatically without first being approved.

Even with needing approval, your example shows that the applicant ignored the message and did not type the reason why they want to join. Unless you know who they are, I would write and ask why they want to join.

If you allow people in without approval, you are taking the risk of spammers posting porn in your forum and then someone else reporting it then Aimoo being closed down and possibly you losing your forum completely.

I might seem over dramatic to you but it has become a huge problem so all Owners must take responsibility to help protect all forums. This is why Aimoo changed the defaults. Please do not take any risks.

Please see the Announcement about Permissions here which also explains that all Categories became open to all Members when the defaults changed. If you have any private areas which you do not want your members to see and be able to post in, you need to change those Permissions as well..
