It is like no one thought to make an announcement through another channel or something or to post something on the forums in general about this.  It would be nice to know ahead that something is going on.  I have a few friends in the US as well as myself and we have not had access to the forums all day.  And I know the ones we use are OLD ones....so...how can they be on server 4!?

Why can't this stuff happen quickly???  We have some deadlines to meet and this interruption is holding up progress.  It might not mean anything to you but to us it means that our members are happy.

Ugh.

To respond to some of the remarks here:

Harry and Alice are staff working for Aimoo; and Owner of the Aimoo Help Forum and Diamond Support forum, just like any other Owner of an Aimoo forum. It is not all they do but I won't go into that.

It is a Monday to Friday job and they do not usually work weekends, although Harry has sometimes worked weekends but it is not a normal occurrence.

Karrier, OZ and I are volunteers on the Help Forum. As volunteers, we are not able to contact all Owners of Aimoo Forums.

Harry cannot do anything in or on Aimoo unless he is on the computer in the Aimoo office. Being Saturday, he was not in the office.

When Aimoo first went down, I contacted Harry. He contacted the IT Department by telephone. They got it up and running within 1.5 or two hours or so, depending on where one lives. It was 1.5 hours for me.

As soon as Harry got word from the IT Department by telephone that they were going to be working on Server 4, Harry advised me. Obviously checking for issues and doing maintenance is not a quick fix.

Initially it was thought that it was going to affect all Servers, but then Harry got word only Server 4 would be offline intermittently. I have a forum on Server 4 and I managed to send out a Group Email to my members when the forum was online.

I have no idea when Server 4 will be back online completely, rather than intermittently, but I imagine it won't be much longer.

Babs, for me it's not a matter of notifying my members...my forum is open to the general public, and I have a huge following on facebook. That is why I wish there could be some sort of polite message that tells people that maintenance is being done. This is really frustrating....why why why do they do it on week ends???evrstrong

-------------------------

Evr, this isn't "planned" maintenance.  Had it been planned, Babs, Iandi or Karrier would've been told by Harry and one of them would've informed us of that.

Evr, They are doing it on the weekend to get it checked and fixed now rather than on Monday or Tuesday, in which case your forum would be down for much longer.

There was no time to post a polite message as there was no advance warning of the system going down.

As I have explained in Message #165, the Aimoo Administrator does not work seven days a week. We are lucky that Harry acted on my notification and he was able to contact the Technicians.

Since Harry is not in the Aimoo Office at weekends, he cannot post any Announcements.

I am sure the Technicians are working their hardest to get Server 4 up and running again, rather than taking the weekend off.

Well, to those that run Aimoo, some of us use this place as a commuinication with others.  With it down its impossible to keep up with others since we do not use things like Facebook or other social media for communications.  From what I have read on this, this has been down for a long while.  All we want to know is when it is coming back online again.....you guys seem to walk around the answer to that question.  We don't have intermittent service where I live...there is none except this page and our profiles.  And you know what....a lot of people don't get to do things here till the weekends and that is when it breaks down from the posts....someone should be onsight to fix things.

No one has control over the myriad of things that can take a server or an entire site down.  It is what it is.

Speaking for myself here... like others, I have a forum that I and other members couldn't access all day.  I managed to email a couple of them and they passed the word on to others.  No one whined, no one complained.

For me, it's not a life or death matter and not serious enough to warrant getting all bent out of shape over.  All that reults from that is indigestion and jacking up the blood pressure.  And that's not going to restore the service any faster.

So I'll be patient and let the techies do their thing.  They'll get it up and running eventually.

I did not mean to make people mad but most of us do not have the regular week to be on Aimoo.  We have jobs as well and some of us go to school at night.  We just want to be able to have things available to us.

Does your car ever break down, or your computer, refrigerator, washing machine, dishwasher, etc?  If so, how long did it take to get them fixed?

I have had all those things break down recently and no one would work on them at weekends and/or overnight, as the Techs in Aimoo are doing.

If my car breaks down it goes to a mechanic that gets it out in a couple of days.  If the appliances minus the computer breaks down, my apartment landlord has to fix it even on a weekend.  That is not the point.  The point is this looks as though it is a growing problem.  I am done talking about it now.  Because it is obviously not going to get answered as to when it might be working again.

I do not know. It is obviously taking longer than first thought.

Major appliances are expected to breakdown every now and then....just like most of us have grown accustom to aimoo sites breaking down...but for this long????  This is ridiculous.  How are we suppose to keep our members and our sites if the maintenance isn't reliable?

I didn't want to say anything too soon as I tested a few forums on Server 4 when I noticed mine was working; and some were still not back on line, but as you say Karrier, they appear to be OK now. Let's hope this is permanent and not intermittent. Fingers crossed.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!  I know we Bi*ched a lot and you might not understand our frustation but as much as I was frustrated I'm just as appreciative.  Again....THANK YOU for getting the server fixed.

Is there some protocol or process in the works to help prevent this from happening again?  What was the issue exactly on why the server went down?  Has it been fixed completely or was a workaround (bandaid) put in place?

My message no. 155 still applies to us Brits using Forum 1

It works fine in the morning then slowly gets slower and slower as the day goes on.

Is this being looked into by the techs ?

I have had that too and I showed Alice a screenshot. It has only happened to me in the Help Forum.

Below the Sign Out message, there was another one asking if I was sure I wanted to delete.

Those gremlins get everywhere.

I will let Alice know that others are seeing that message as well. You can remove the message/s by clicking the X but you probably figured that out already.
