If they come back with another nickname can you ban their ISP?
Surely then they will not be able to get back in with any nickname.
I did this in our MSN group before we moved to Aimoo.
We had a very nasty member, posting abusive messages and causing trouble.
She was banned but came back with a different nickname.
I got her ISP and banned that.
She could never get back in again no matter how she tried LOL!
If the ip that is banned tries to view the forum they get a banning message pop up, if they use a different ip via a proxy server for example they can get in again with a new id.
I always ban the ip range not just the single ip also username and email.
Pups
*He grovelled*
Aimoo needs to start banning by ISP as opposed to IP, which as we have all seen isn't working well in some cases. :)
I have a link to a good site that explains how to do this if you are interested. :)
G'day Merri ... it is only possible to ban via IP addresses ...
With regards to IP addresses ... Internet Service Providers (ISPs) only have a certain number of IP addresses. When other subscribers are offline, the ISP re-uses or "leases" them for a period of time. Subscribers can pay more for a "fixed IP address".
One can only ban a single IP address - or a range of IP addresses ... the only way to ban all communication coming from a specific ISP is to ban their whole IP address range ... which at the end of the day could mean that one is banning a number of innocent members using that same ISP... which probably is not the desired outcome ...
Also please refer to this thread ... in particular Post # 5 & 6 ...

Yes there are certain tools which may be used to source members' ISP's via their IP address ... which enables one to lodge a formal complaint about the ISP's subscribers - if they abuse the system.
Thanking you
