Selecting a Different Skin

Note:
In order to see "Customize" and "Options" on the right above
your messages (as per Point 1 below), you must have the
shortcut links activated in your Forum's Preferences.

1. Hover your mouse over "Customize", then click on "Edit Skin"
in the drop down menu which appears.

Alternatively click on My Control Panel.

They both take you to the same page.

2.
 To use a different Skin from the one you have now, click on
"My Skin Collection" under "Skin & Style" in the left hand menu.

3.
The Skins you currently have in your Collection will appear.
    To view one, click on Preview in the second column.
    To select/choose one, click on Apply in the last column.

4.
 If you want to select another one that is not already in your Collection,
    click on "Add More Skins" on the bottom right.

5.
 The Aimoo Skin Library will appear. Click on each tab at the top to see the choices.

   Click on Preview to take a closer look at a Skin. The Preview opens in a new window so it is safe to close it after viewing (by clicking the X in the top right hand corner).
They are not exactly a full preview as they don't show the icons and buttons.

6.
 When you see one you like, click on Add to Collection
. You can store up to
20 Skins in your Collection, so you could keep the ones you like or use the most.

7.
 When you have finished the above, after clicking on "Add to Collection",
you will be returned to your Skin Collection. Click on "Apply" in the last
column of the required Skin and it will be applied to your Forum.

If you wish to change any settings in your newly applied Skin,
please read the following messages.

Renaming and Editing a Skin

1.  The Skin you have chosen is named against "Tips" and also
     has a check mark in the Status column against its name.

2. If you wish to make permanent changes to a Skin that you wish to keep or share, first click on Rename against the appropriate Skin. Make sure you don't give it the same name as an existing Skin.

3. Click on "Edit My Skin" in the left hand menu.

3.  You will note there are two tabs at the top ~ "Forum & Category Page" and "Thread Page".

Let's start with the Forum & Category Page.

You can see the colours in the squares on the right.
If you wish to change these, click inside the square and click
on a different colour from the chart which appears
.

I
f you want to use a custom colour (one that is not shown on the chart), you need to know the HTML Code. If you are matching the colour of something you already have, say in a logo or the background pattern, you can read the code in your paint program, such as Paintshop Pro, Paint Shop Deluxe, Photoshop, Corel Draw, etc. Make a note of it and type it in the box, or you may be able to copy and paste it, as I do in Paintshop Pro. Alternatively, you can type it directly in the box in the Skin setting without the chart popping up.

The first section is called "Community Style".

The examples on the left indicate each section in turn,
so you know which ones you are changing.

The first box, "Background Color", is the colour which appears for a second or two
when the page is refreshing and before the background pattern appears.

In the second box, "Background Image" is the pattern of the background, the Skin itself. If you wish to change the background design, copy the URL of the source of your design, ie the Photobucket link or the link from your Forum Album if you have uploaded it there. Paste it in the box against "Background Image".

Do not click on Upload or it will be added to your
Profile Album which only has 5 MB of storage.

Change the other options as you wish.
For instance, I changed mine to Repeat to ensure the whole page is covered.

You can click on Preview at any time to see how changes affect your Skin. Click BACK to return to this option and just experiment until you get what you want. When you are happy with the latest edits, click on Submit at the bottom of the page, then move on to the next section. I wouldn't try changing everything at once if you are new to this. As you become more familiar with it, you will probably know what you are doing and can make changes to several sections at a time.

The next section is called "Top Style".

The first one "Background Color" puts a shaded horizontal bar
behind your top logo. I never use this.

"Background Image" is for you to add an image at the top of the Skin.
This is optional but if you do use one, you may have to adjust the number of pixels
for the height. It's a matter of trial and error, depending on the size of your image.

Proceed through the section and look at the examples shown on the left which indicate which part you are changing. For instance, the screenshot below indicates the colour of the Sub Category title.

This one shows the description or explanation of the Sub Category if you use this.

The existing colours in the boxes on the right also give you an indication of what you are changing. If for instance, you want to change all instances of pink to blue, you may want to do those first.

Keep the Skins you edit in your Collection even you switch to another one. If you want to use any again, they will have retained your settings and you won't need to do all this again. Remember you can store up to 20 Skins. You will know which ones you have edited because of the name you gave them.

When you have completed the Forum & Category Page and saved it by clicking on Submit,
you can proceed to the "Thread Page" so click on the tab as shown below.

Again the examples on the left indicates to which section they relate.

You can change the font, as well as the colour and size of the font.

In the next two sections, "Topic Header Style" and "Topic Style",
you must delete the code in the first box.

Remove anything that is in the top box as shown above and click Submit.

Then go to the next section "Topic Style" shown below and do the same again.

You must click Submit after deleting each one.

Leave the top boxes empty and enter your background codes in the second box of each section.

~~~~
"Topic Style"
The second box "Topic Background Color" is actually for the left hand column on the left of an open thread.
This can be different to your message background which means the two areas are clearly defined, as shown below.
As a signature tag maker, I know many taggers prefer to have a white background in their messages, especially when their tags have a transparent background.
Others prefer to match or blend their message background with the Skin.
Either way, this is where you would change it, in the first box of the lower section of
"Topic Content Background Color".
In that box, change the code to #FFFFFF if you want your message background to be white,
or select white from the colour chart after clicking inside the square
(or select whatever colour you wish to use for your message background).
The next four boxes in the upper section relate to the text in the left hand column
of a message thread. This pertains to the Member who has posted
the message and appears below their Avatar.
The lower part of this section (the last five boxes) relates to the font within the message; and the very last box "Topic Content Font Color" is the font colour, so if you change yours as shown above, you will have brown text on a white background in your opening message.
NOTE:
Many people miss the next part.
The above relates to the opening message but we also need to change the details for Replies.
Scroll down a little (two sections down) to "Reply Content Style"
and make the required changes there for the font details.
Buttons and Icons
Of course with your new skin, you will most likely want to create new buttons and icons to blend in with your background pattern.
Hover over Customize and click on Forum Icon.
Or, if you are already in your Control Panel, click on Forum Icon in the Skin & Style section.
Click on Update to upload a different icon. Upload the icons from your computer.
Click Default to revert to the original Aimoo icon.
Important Note about Editing & Renaming Skins
The Skins in your Skin Collection are stored under your ID,
not the Forum where you are applying or editing them.
If you are the Owner or Super-Administrator of more than one Forum, any edits you make while you are working in one Forum, will also change the Skin in the other Forum/s. The Skin is in your own Library so edits will affect any Forum where you put it into use.
Because the Skin won't be in the Aimoo Skin Library, you can't rename them differently for each Forum because no matter which Forum you are in when editing the Skin, or if you change its name, it will change in all your Forums.
The only way around it is to upload the original Aimoo Skin you used again, give it a different name to the one you re-named before and copy the settings over which you wish to keep and edit the rest of it accordingly to suit the other Forum.
Administrators (Admins) can edit Skins but cannot add a new one from the Aimoo Skin Library.
Say we are talking about two Forums. You want the same basic Skin in both but with some minor differences. First, complete the editing in Forum 1 to your satisfaction. Keep the Edit Skin page open while you open Forum 2. Using the same Aimoo Skin you used in Forum 1 for editing purposes, re-name the Skin in Forum 2 with a different name to the one you used in Forum 1.
Now you have two screens open. In Forum 1, copy (Control C) the colour, code, background, etc, one at a time and paste it (Control V) into the same area in Forum 2. I use Alt + Tab to switch between the two Forums but you may prefer to click on the tabs at the top of the page.
So now you have two Skins the same in your Library but with different names.
In Forum 2, edit the parts which you want to be different to Forum 1.
Apply the first Skin to Forum 1 and the second Skin to Forum 2.
If you submit a Skin to be Shared and Aimoo accepts it, it will then go into the Aimoo Skin Library, so it will always be there for you to use in a Diamond Forum. Even if you delete it from your Collection, you will be able to add it again by getting it from the Shared tab in the Aimoo Skin Library, provided you are in a Diamond Forum at the time.
However, do not submit two Skins which are too similar. Choose the one you prefer for submission to Share. If you are lucky, it will go into the Aimoo Skin Library and you will be rewarded with one month Diamond Service to apply to the Forum of your choice.
For Skins in the Classic style forum, there is now a box to add your copyright information. On the Edit Skin Page, it is right at the end of the page.
It is best to type the credits somewhere on your computer, in Word, or Outlook whatever you have because you cannot do Alt 0169 for the copyright symbol in the box shown below. You will need to copy it from your computer (as text) and paste it in the box. This also helps you to make sure it is correct before you copy it.
This is how it will look on the Skin.
This will save us a LOT of headaches and fiddling around trying to get the copyright information to appear in the correct place.
