Well, ya gotta have backups.  But when even switching to the backup can't get in, I figure it's Aimoo's issue.

    Sorry about the Oz confusion....ooops.

    IE9.

Seems to have sorted itself by using the longer URLs (ie, forum# dot aimoo dot com slash grpname) to access.  It's the shorter ones (ie grpname dot aimoo dot com) that aren't working.  And they ought to be working.  They certainly have been working for yrs now, so why the sudden stop?

Glitch somewhere.  TYVM for your help, other wise Oz person ;-)

Don't give me a heart attack!  Does not exist?! :-O

I have a different name in the URL than the grp name for some reason.  It let me name the grp what I wanted, but it said it was unavailable to be an URL....dunno why....so I picked something similar.  Thunk long & hard about it LOL & finally came up w/ the URL.

Yknow, I think the *domain names* have gone kerflooey, b/c those are what I had bookmarked....yknow, the kind of URL that just has the name of the grp plus aimoo dot com w/o all that *forum1* stuff b4 it.  Possible clue for Admin as to why bookmarks are suddenly bouncing?

B/c I did it the hard way & typed in the URL, & this time it *redirected* (it didn't say it did, but I could see the URL flicker & then switch up in the bar from what I finally remembered my addy was, to a *forum4* thingy) to the grp.  Phew!

Does that mean I am on Server 4 BTW?

    TYVM Babs :-)
Edit: O dear, am I confoozling 2 Oz's here?  Sorry if I am!

I have no idea what server mine is on, & it shows up in the dropdown on the Aimoo Home Page when I sign in (as that is where my bookmark for my forum takes me now), but it won't let me *view* or *manage*, just keeps bouncing me back to the Aimoo Home Page!  The dropdown doesn't list another forum at which I am a moderator (that was an MSN migrated forum so I think it's Server 2), but that bookmark also bounces me to the Aimoo Home Page.  What's up?

PS>I can't give the URL as Karrier has requested b/c of the *bouncing bookmark* thing.  Mine is a private grp so not sure if members would like me to announce its name (but can't Aimoo tell?), the MSN-migrated one is All My Tudors...history chat.  Mgrs there (ForeverAmber & Greensleeves) can't *see* grp, either.

I just wish aimoo would quit adding new stuff until they get all the old stuff fixed.

That's what I'm sayin'.  Only Teddie said it faster LOL

I still wanna know what country has 81 in waists & 94 in hips, tho.  Just not enough to be bothered clicking on it again.

    KILL IT NOW!!!

Yknow, the trashy ads around here are bad enough, now you have to have trashy shopping that freezes up my computer?  And Aimoo is not Facebook.  We do not need a game center.  WTH are you ppl thinking here?

I log in & see this sparkly crown thing.  Which amuses me b/c I like royal history.  I hover on it to see if it's going to tell me why I suddenly have one & it says I have "privilege".  OK.  Then I notice a bar had popped in up top about "privilege", so I click it to see what sort of privileges Aimoo thinks I warrant.  I'm thinking maybe there's new tools or skins or something available.

No, it's just another tiresome Aimoo ploy to get ppl to buy overpriced cheap crap!  Daily Shop pffft, w/ games to come "soon".  Yeah, like we need these servers to run any crappier than they already do?  Just opening this up & then opening one more pg in another tab was enough to slow my pc to a crawl.  Gee, thanks for implementing the privilege of Aimoo malware or whatever this nonsense is.

The reason I opened a 2nd tab was b/c it said signing up got you 2 freebies per day.  So I looked at the freebies, clicked on a pair of jeans.

Are you kidding me w/ the sizing charts?  Yeah, this'll go over well.  I can't make head or tail of them & the "explanatory" chart that "converts" centimeters to inches to feet isn't helpful in the least.  I'm looking at this chart & the sizes go from 25-30 & I think it's saying I have to have an 81 in waist & 94 in hips to be a size 30 LOL  WTF is this nonsense?  I'd link ya so you could see for yourself but as I said, the whole shopping center froze up & I had to close it out in order to do anything & neglected to take a copy of the link b4 doing so.

So no signing up based upon piss-poor pg performance, & no free jeans for me....or anything else if the sizing is consistent....b/c who is going to order stuff, even if it's allegedly free (there's gotta be a catch in there somewhere when you sign up, nothing is "free"), when they have no clue WTH size is coming?

Aimoo....really....we do NOT need this sort of junk clogging up this website!  If you think it's a moneymaker, you're delusional.  It may as well be in Japanese for all the sense ppl are going to be able to make of it.  Well, the American users, anyway; I'm assuming this is real sizing somewhere on the planet, but not here.  I swear that chart was in inches & said my backside had to be the size of Kansas even for a size 25!

Get rid of this junky nonsense.  It's not necessary & I do not feel "privileged" to be chosen for it.

I do want to keep the sparkly crown, tho :P

OK maybe it's me, but I don't get the wall-eyed panic LOL  Go shopping.  Read a book.  Play a game.  Clean something.  Bake a cake.  What did y'all do b4 there was internet?  Go do that.

From what I've read, Admin seems to get that this has developed into an issue beyond the norm & is making nice compensational noises for Diamond grps.  At this pt there's no reason to disbelieve a pro-rated discount or whatever won't be applied.  Freebie grps, meh, ya get whatcha pay for, whaddya want?

Moving a forum is always a bad thing.  You will lose a lg % of your membership.  Ppl don't like change.  They lose links.  They forget passwords.  They don't remember to bookmark.  They delete PMs or emails w/ pertinent info & dunno who to contact.  They get confused w/ a new learning curve format & give up.  They lose interest.  Ask anyone who migrated their MSN grp over to Aimoo if 100% of their peeps made the trip & odds are you'll get a resounding NO.  It was probably closer to 10%, 25% if they got lucky, 50% if they got incredibly lucky.  Plus there's all those external sites directing ppl to your forum that now need to be contacted & politely asked to go to the trouble of changing your link in their links section.  Some will, some won't, some'll just delete you, so there's a traffic loss to consider.  If you have affiliate programs there's the hassle of redirecting all that.  Aimoo doesn't let mgmt do mass membership emails, so it's lots of tedious individual PMs to notify current membership of moving plans for a sm % of gain b/c they're not all coming along for the ride.  Not to mention all that tedious copying & pasting of hundreds or thousands of previous posts & deciding which ones are really worth moving & if peeps are going to get bent out of shape & start drama if theirs didn't make the cut.  And do y'all really think if you're pd up in advance, Aimoo is going to give you a total full refund for a server fart?  Um, no.  Admin said compensation for lost days, not the whole farm.  Ppl who donated funds to your forums are going to be mighty irked at their money wasted.  Even tho as soon as they donated it, it became the forum's money, it was theirs to start, so they'll still see it that way.

I don't care where you go or how much you pay for a forum.  There isn't going to be one anywhere that isn't going to have periodic downtimes for maintenance, repair, emergencies, whether scheduled & notified in advance, or not.  They all do it.  You could set your watch by MSN ruining Halloween every yr sans notice.  Aimoo may not be the greatest, but one thing in its favor is that it's user-friendly, not a tremendous learning curve, when compared to some of the other places I investigated when MSN was kicking us all to the curb.  Ease of access is a really important consideration when you want peeps to come over & join up & play w/ you in your grp.  Once ppl get comfy w/ that, the resistance to going elsewhere & learning something new is amazing to behold.  Ppl will move w/ you & never be heard from again b/c they can't or won't figure out how to use the new place, I guarantee it.

So I dunno as if the knee-jerk response of moving is the answer necessarily.  It ain't like it's the end of the world if you can't post for a wk, jeez.  I do know that snarking off at Admin every 5 min as some ppl have been doing isn't helpful at all b/c Granmere always told me you catch more flies w/ honey than w/ vinegar.  I think if Admin was willing to give out better info....or at least (given the language issue) pass the info along to the mods to translate for us....& accept NICE feedback, resolution would be more pleasant.

That said....sigh....after ONE whole day of being able to post in mine own little space again after 3 days of no-load, now I got me invalid variables.  Well, actually, Admin does HA HA b/c it says it's sending them to him every single time I open a pg there.  Apres moi, le deluge.  Ooops.  Vive l'Error Template!

I thought it was just me missing the button to push to dump this "feature".  I was prompted to search for the topic b/c you know how when a pg is loading really slooooow & you can track its progress down below in the bar & see exactly which slowpokes are holding up production?  Well, it's always this nonsense that comes in dead last.  Which isn't surprising in the least, as it seems these "plug-ins" always come in dead last in loading; that implies to me a code-heavy mess, mayhap?  Why would Aimoo choose to do that to its pgs?  Why would anyone?

O for the good old days when ya just had those old-fashioned things called "bookmarks" & you visited your usual haunts individually.  What fun can it possibly be to go to one place & then disseminate the identical post far & wide like you're lazy & just don't care?  When did the internet turn into Cheers where everybody knows your name & you don't get to have 11dy6 nicks to suit your fancy anymore?

I'm getting rather sick of seeing this mess of "sharing" popping up everywhere.  Ppl are now posting comments to the Today show from their FB accts using their real names.  Wasn't that like the 1st no-no of Internet 101 to combat ID theft?  Now ppl are just flinging the FB accts far & wide like it's nothing.  The day FB & its ilks becomes mandatory for forums is the day I slink off the internet superhighway exit.

I don't see how the privacy settings factor make a diff.  It's still garnering hits even tho info can't be accessed & it's still letting word out that a privy chamber even exists.  You have no choice but to put up w/ it in your grp.  You can't opt out of it.  It's like having new neighbors move into the apt next door w/ a yippy dog.  You either grit your teeth & put up w/ it or you move.  I don't consider that an amenity or a good feature.

If we can pull the plug on the RSS feed, why can't we pull the plug on a similar feature leaking info out of our grps?  I would think it would save Aimoo not only a whole lot of server space but a whole lot of money as well if all of this sort of junk was NOT incl as standard forum fare upon initial set-up.  It could be in the control panel for owners to activate if they wanted it, but I bet a lg % of them wouldn't care to bother w/ it.  I know I have about 99% of it turned off.  Maybe if Aimoo wasn't so top-heavy w/ trash there wouldn't be all this crashing that goes on all the time?

OK I rather take umbrage to the whinging about making the period of deleting inactive grps even shorter.  In 2002 a good friend founded a discussion grp on MSN & invited me to be her co-mgr.  Less than a yr after we migrated to Aimoo, she unexpectedly died.  Yes, as in real life DEAD ashes in an urn demised.  And I was the whiny sickly one TYVM.

So I'd freak if Aimoo took your suggestion & I got out of the hospital one day to find her virtual legacy poof begoned.  Um, no.

The current period isn't long enough IMHO b/c IRL sudden illness/injury can happen & some ppl don't have backup.  In fact, I'd like it if Aimoo could create sort of an "exception" list that would permit extensions to the time limit for ppl like me, just in case.  It's not beyond the realm of possibility that I could be MIA for a few mos & no one else would stop by in that timeframe & post, esp w/ how funky Aimoo's been acting up lately.  Things are slow enough as it is w/o worrying about shorter time limits.

That's awful.  What is it hurting to leave grps be for a extra mo or 2?  Sometimes there are slow periods that occur naturally & sometimes Aimoo causes them w/ maintenance messes & server smash-ups or whatever it is they do that discourages ppl from checking in more frequently.  Maybe Aimoo's not going trigger-happy on deletions b/c some of the grps are like ours & do have 1,000s of past posts, ever think of that?

I don't think MSN on its wonkiest week was ever this wonky.

This is more than just the last 3 days or so, altho it's been that long since I've been staring at the Vista donut trying to get ANY pg on my own privy forum to load at all.  It takes a good 5 min just to be rewarded w/ "Internet Explorer cannot display the page".  At least MSN threw a wrench at me.

It seems like almost every time I've logged in (& I shouldn't have to keep logging in, either, when I don't log out, but Aimoo keeps dumping me overboard nonetheless) for like the last 6 mos or so & go to any Aimoo grp, whether one of mine or someone else's, it's either throwing the aforementioned fit or moving sloooooower than dirt.

I mean, I type up a post & hit reply & it just sits there & does.....nothing?  Finally I give up waiting on it & decide to F5 it & start over & I can see the green bar loading in micro-increments while the pg takes 10 min to refresh itself.  Then voila, it magically posted....huh?  After I'd waited on it 15 min to move b4?

    Or I hit preview & it's....empty.  Like I never typed a word.

Or I want to cancel a post & it also sits there & does nothing, nothing, nothing, then posts it anyway half an hr later after I've forgotten all about it & wonder why I have an Aimoo tab even open still & go see.

Or I go to insert a smiley & they don't load.

I'm thinking Aimoo desperately NEEDS maintenance.  Whether it will address all these irritating user annoyances is anyone's guess.  But I tell ya, I have a folder of unsent posts (copied & pasted into Notepad, natch, learned that the hard way) that I saved "for later, when Aimoo's behaving", only it never seems to be behaving within the speed dial recall of my memory.  It's been getting pretty consistently goofy since maybe Thanksgiving (US style) or so, & that is why I think a lot of ppl are fed up & looking around for new boards.

Yeah, it's irksome.  Some ppl need to seriously get a life if they panic when a forum tanks for a few days in a row, jeez.  I just go shopping LOL  Eventually it'll come back.  But it is getting a tad discouraging to see SSDD 5 days outta 7 lately no matter which of your grps you hit (I'm amazed this one opened up for me).  At least one of em's going to be cuckoo.

So Aimoo best straighten this regular mess out b4 ppl decide hanging onto their MSN archives isn't worth the hassle anymore & go start from scratch (I do NOT recommend Yuku FYI yuck).

PS>Dunno which server I'm on, but apparently not 4, as I'm still staring at the blue donut (sighs).
