Advanced Member

When a member joins a Forum, they are classed as a "Normal Member".
A Normal Member may click on Upgrade, even when they don't know what it means.

It means they have applied to be an Advanced Member.
Owners can either have them upgraded automatically or need to be approved.

To set your options, go to Options > Preferences.

Scroll down to the bottom of the page to the "Member" section.
If you want to approve them before they become Advanced Members,
c
heck #4 "Member needs to get approval before upgrading".

They will then appear in your Pending List waiting for approval.
If you don't want to approve them, you can do nothing, just leave them there.
You may find a special purpose for Advanced Members in the future.
If you Decline, they will receive a message in their Aimoo Inbox advising them of this.

You may decide whether to give Advanced Members special privileges such as viewing a Category that others can't, uploading images direct from their computer where others can't (if you are a Diamond Forum). You can check which privileges you can give Advanced Members, and anyone else for that matter, in "Permissions", the subject of another Tutorial.

Upgrading/Downgrading a Member

When a member joins a Forum, they are classed as a "Normal Member".

To upgrade them to Advanced Member, Moderator or Administrator,
hover over Options on the right below your Inbox and click on Member.

A list of all your members will appear. I have removed the content from the example for privacy purposes. You can upgrade/downgrade someone from the ALL list or click on one of the tabs at the top for "Normal Member", "Advanced Member", "Moderator" or "Administrator". This is what they are now, not what you want to change them to.

Click inside the box on the left of the member name you wish to upgrade or downgrade.
You can downgrade an Admin from this list, but not upgrade someone to Admin.
See the next section regarding upgrading to Administrator.

If you have lots of members and you are only looking for one, it would be
quicker to find them by keying in their User Name in the Search box
at the top and then click the Search button.

After checking the box on the left against their ID, go to "Change User Title" on the left below the list and select the required position. It shows Moderator as the default choice so if you are changing a person to a Moderator, all you need to do is click Submit. For other titles, click the drop down arrow and click on the required title and then click the Submit button.

The member will receive a notification in their Aimoo Inbox that they
have been upgraded (or downgraded as the case may be).

If you are adding one Moderator and no one else,
you may prefer to go to Options > Moderator.

Type in the ID, ensuring it is accurate.

Then click the "Add New" button.

Again they will receive notification in their Aimoo In Box.

Upgrading to Admin or Super Admin

To change any title or ID to Administrator or Super-Administrator,
go to Options > Preferences.

Scroll down and in the menu on the left, just below "Members" click on "Administrator".

In the box at the top under S-Admin, type in the ID of the
Member you wish to upgrade to Super Admin and then click the Update button.

The member will receive a notification in their
Aimoo Inbox advising them of their change in status.

You can also upgrade anyone to Administrator on this page.

If you already have Administrators, their ID's will appear in the boxes.
To upgrade another Member or Moderator to Admin,
type the name accurately in a spare box and then click on Update.
They will receive notification in their Aimoo In Box
advising them of their new position.

You can have one Super Administrator and up to five Administrators.

Normal and Advanced Members privileges are determined by what Permissions have been set for them on the Permissions page. However, they do not have any managerial Tools.

Moderators can do what they have been given the authority to do, as set in the Permissions as per the Tutorial here. There are some things they cannot do which Admins can do, such as approve/remove members, etc, but they can edit, delete and move messages on the Categories to which they have been assigned. Making them Global Moderators will give them control over all Categories, rather than assigning them different ones. They can also ban members. See the Tutorial here on banning. Moderators cannot create Categories or Sub Categories or edit Skins.

Administrators cannot change the Skin to another one but they can edit the current Skin. They can edit, delete and move messages in all Categories. They can approve or deny new Members in the Pending List but they do not receive the applications when someone applies to join. Admins can upgrade Members to Advanced, Moderator or Administrator and can also remove members from the forum. They cannot remove another Administrator even though they can add them, bearing in mind there is a limit of five Administrators.

The Super Administrator can do anything the Owner can do, apart from deleting the Owner, deleting the Forum or transfer Ownership of the forum to someone else. They receive applications in their PM In Box when someone applies to join and they can approve or deny them.
